PASSIVE VOICE

Passive Voice (Kalimat Pasif)
Kalimat pasif adalah kalimat dimana subjek di kenai tindakan/pekerjaan ,
sedangkan kalimat aktif subjeklah yang melakukan tindakan pekerjaan.

Hal yang perlu di perhatikan dalam merubah aktif ke pasif dalah;

■ Yang dapat di jadikan kalimat passive adalah verbal sentence (kalimat yang
predikatnya kata kerja/V)
■ Verbal sentence yang dapat diubah ke Passive Voice (kalimat passive) adalah
kalimat yang memiliki objek penderita)
■ Perubahanan aktif ke pasif sebaiknya tidak merubah kalimat. Perubahan ini
terjadi hanya pada struktur kalimatnya saja.
■ Ciri kalimat passive voice adalah to be + V3 dan kata by.
Example :
Aktive : Bajuri Loves Oneng

Passive : Oneng is Loved by Bajuri

(Active) : I Bought A New Motorcycle Lastweek
(Passive) : A New Motorcycle Was Bought By Me Last Week

When to use a passive
 When the subject of the verb, is more important than the
person or thing carrying it ouy, the object.
 The object of the passive form is usually left out (not
important) or preceeded by
In general

■ The object in the active sentence becomes the subject of the


passive sentence.
■ The passive always contains a form of the auxiliary ver ‘to be’
and a past participle form of a verb.
In general

■ The axiliary ‘to be’ takes the tense of the verb in the active
sentence
■ The main verb in the active sentence is turned into a past
participle.
Present simple

■ Active
o She buys tomatoes.

 Passive (am/are/is+past participle)


o Tomatoes are bought by her
Present continuous

■ Active
 They are taking down the police station.

 Passive (am/are/is+being+past participle)


 The police station is being taken down.
Present perfect

 Active
 I have painted the door.

 Passive (have/has+been+past participle)


 The door has been painted
Past simple

 Active
 They sold the car yesterday.

 Passive (was/were+past participle)


 The car was sold yesterday.
Past Continuous

 Active
 They were cleaning the house

 Passive (was/were+being+past participle)


 The house was being cleaned.
Past perfect

 Active
 They had given him a job

 Passive (had+being+past participle)


 He had been given a job
Future TENSE

 Active
 He will give you his number.

 Passive (will+be+ past participle)


 You will be given his number.
Past future

 Active
 He assured me he would post the letter

 Passive (woud be + past participle)


 He assured me that the letter would be posted.
Future Perfect

■ Active
 We will have put up the tent, before you get back.

 Passive (will+have been+past participle)


 The tent will have been put, before you get back.
Modals

Can/could/should/might/must/may/etc.

 Active
 She can help you with your homework.

 Passive (can+be+past participle)


 You cn be helped with your homework.
Indirect Object

 Active
 They gave me the letter

 Passie
 The letter was given to me. (direct object)
 I was given the letter. (indirect object)
Prepositional object

 Active
 Somebody must deal with the problem

 Passive
 The problem must dealt with.
Passives & subclauses

 Active
 He suggested thet we should leave at once.
(That we should leave at once was suggested.)

 Passive
 It was suggested that we should leave at once.
