NANO TECHNOLOGY

BY
CH . PHANINDER
HISTORY
The idea of
nanotechnology was
born in December 29,
1959 when physicist
Richard Feynman gave a
lecture exploring the
idea of building
things at the atomic
and molecular scale. Richard Feynman.

Because it

What is Nanotechnology?
Greek English

Simply stated, it is the

nano

world of the very small =

things, such as
molecules and atoms.
dwarf
what is nanotechnology?
 “Nanotechnology is the art and science
of
manipulating matter at the nanoscale”

 A nanometer is…
one billionth of a
meter

DNA Sample: Approx. 2 nm Human Hair: Approx. 1x10 5 nm

HOW SMALL IS NANOTECHNOLOGY ?
NEED FOR
NANOTECHNOLOGY ?
ü Allows the placement of small structures
placed with
precision,simplicity and low cost

ü Leads to economic growth

ü Enhances national security

ü Improves the quality of life

ü Leads to create jobs

With NT, we can create
unique
materials and products which
are:

üStronger
üLighter
üCheaper
üDurable
üPrecise

üComputers can become a billion times faster

and a million times smaller

üAutomatic Pollution Cleanup

üManufacturing at almost no cost

üEnd of Illnesses (i.e. cancer, heart
disease)

üUniversal Immunity (i.e. aids, flu)

üBody Sculpting

üCNT’s are the alloptropes of carbon
with a cylindrical nanostructure.

üThese have been constructed with
length to diameter ratio upto
28,000,000:1.

 APPLICATIONS:-
üTo make bullet proof
clothes.
üIn electric circuits.
üIn solar cells.
üIn paper batteries.
üIn NRAM (nano
RAM).

üNano Transistors

üNano Diodes

DISADVANTAGES

ü Loss of jobs (in manufacturing, farming, etc)

ü Carbon Nanotubes could cause infection of

lungs

ü Oil & Diamonds could become worthless

ü Atomic weapons could be more accessible and

destructive

 National Science and Technology Council
(USA) claims that:
 “Nanotechnology is an enabling technology
that will change the nature of almost every
human-made object in the next century.”
