 Released on August 2001
 XP is the successor to both Microsoft 2000 and
window ME
FEATURE OF WINDOW XP
 Faster start-up and Hibernation sequences
 The ability to discard a newer device driver in favor of the
previous one (known as driver rollback), should a driver
upgrade not produce desirable results
 A new, arguably more user-friendly interface, including the
framework for developing themes for the desktop
environment
 Fast user switching, which allows a user to save the current
state and open applications of their desktop and allow
another user to log on without losing that information

 The Clear Type font rendering mechanism, which is


designed to improve text readability on liquid crystal display
(LCD) and similar monitors

ADVANTAGES OF WINDOW XP
 It supports most of the hardware without need of external driver
 It offers good GUI as compared to older versions
 It supports wireless networking
 Many applications are developed for windows only and on other
OS they do not work
 Windows XP offers universal plug and play features
 The availability of this is very high.
 It offers universal solution to OS needs and there are no
compatibility issues in this case.
 Windows XP is user friendly as compared to other OS in market.
DISADVANTAGES OF WINDOW XP
 Security loopholes exist in it hence it is easily affected by virus and
spyware.
 It is expensive to purchase.
 Prone to crashes and hence unstable.
 Many flaws and bugs are present in it.
 It is very heavy system and old hardware can’t run it.
 Older DOS programs may not run on this version.
 Parallel port not recognized
 No file encryption facility in XP home edition.
 Comes with single user license so it cant be loaded on multiple PCs.
 It has no inbuilt chipset drivers making the install time consuming.
