Moreover, it highlights the importance of

ethical speaker or communicator vis-à-
vis changing situations.
UNIT 1:
Nature, Processes, and
Functions of Communication
Content Standard: The learner should be able to demonstrate
understanding of nature, processes, and functions of oral
communication in context.

Performance Standard: The learner designs and performs


effective controlled and uncontrolled oral communication activities
based on defined contexts.
COMPETENCIE
The learner…
• defines communication and explains its nature, processes,
and functions;

• differentiates the various models of communication by


distinguishing the unique features of each, and

• ascertains the verbal and nonverbal cues that each speaker


uses to achieve his/her purpose.
Unit 2.
Strategic Competence in
Communication
Content Standard: The learner should be able to demonstrate recognition
of communicative competence that requires understanding of speech
contexts, speech styles, speech acts, and communicative
strategies.

Performance Standard: The learner demonstrates effective use of


communicative strategy in a variety of speech situations.
COMPETENCIE
The learner…
• distinguishes and identifies speech types and speech styles
appropriate in different social situations;

• observes the appropriate language forms in using a


particular speech style, and

• engages in a communicative situation using acceptable,


polite, and meaningful communicative strategies.
Unit 3.
Principles of
Effective Speech
Content Standard: The learner should be able to demonstrate an
understanding of what makes an effective speech (informative and
persuasive).

Performance Standard: The learner proficiently delivers various


speeches using the principles of effective speech delivery.
COMPETENCIE
The learner uses principles of effective speech writing
focusing on rhetorical content (audience profile, logical
organization, duration, word choice, and grammatical
correctness) and delivery (articulation, modulation, stage
presence, facial expressions, gestures and movements, and
rapport with the audience).

1. The class will be grouped. Each group will have three to four
members.
2. Each member of the group will be given a paper. Each paper contains
a statement.
3. Read the statement. Time will be given for you to think about the ideas
related your statements
4. The role of every member is to read the statement, to share his/her
ideas, and to respond to the statements given.
5. The speaker needs to wrap the string around his finger when sharing
his ideas or responding to the statements.
6. This continues around the group.
