• One of the first tasks of the reservoir engineer is to


determine the original oil and original gas in place and the
recovery anticipated under the prevailing reservoir
mechanism(s).
• This provides an estimate of the hydrocarbons-in-place, from
which ultimate recovery can be estimated by using an
appropriate recovery factor
