Summary
It is extremely important that teachers are aware that a pupil’s
proficiency in English is not fixed and because a pupil is currently less
proficient in English, this does not mean in any way that this will remain
true throughout a pupil’s secondary education. It is important that all
pupils are challenged and given equal opportunity to develop over time.
There has been a considerable amount of research recently into the
subject of the ‘growth mindset’ which looks at, amongst other things, how
teacher feedback can impact on a pupil’s development over time.
