Prerequisites for ERD Design (Chapter 2)
• Geological constraints
– Targets, fluid contacts, formation types, faults
• Offset well experience
– Preparatory, operational, end of well reports, survey data, mudlogs,
daily drilling reports, BHA reports, petrophysical log and core data
• In situ conditions
– Pore pressure, formation strength, formation temperatures,
rock mechanical properties (e.g. for borehole stability analysis)
• Static operational constraints
– Rig location, rig mechanics (hoist, rotary & pump capacity), pipe size,
template and set back capacity limitations, reservoir conditions
• Dynamic operational constraints
– Fluid selection, friction factors, WOB, ROP, bit agressiveness, bit
open area, flowrates, pipe running speeds, rotary speed, tortuosity
