STREET ART

Done by: Vilius Januskaitis 8b

What is that street art?

◦ Street art is unofficial and

independent form of artwork that
is displayed in public on
surrounding buildings, on streets,
trains, and on other publicly
viewed surfaces.
How did street art start?
◦ The history of street art originated
with tagging, or scratching names
on public property. Graffiti artists
in the 1970s and 1980s began to
inspire people like Keith Haring,
who did chalk drawings in the
New York City subway system
before rising to prominence in
the art world.
What is the purpose of street art?

◦ Street art is one of the

most hybrid forms of artistic
expression in our modern world
because its purpose is to draw
upon what the viewers know
and manipulate the physicality
of the subject to make their
point.
What are the characteristics of street art?

◦ Artists often incorporate elements

of graffiti in their works, adding
large bubble lettering or smaller
decorative script. Scale and time
are often important factors in
creating street art, given the fact
that many of these works are
created illegally.
Why is street art so popular?

◦ Street art is important to

keep urban areas and their residents
energized and inspired. In some
areas artists and building owners come
together to foster the creation of
artwork that can be viewed as
beautifying and reviving a city, rather
than destroying it.
Is street art a vandalism or art?
◦ It is illegal under the
Graffiti Vandalism Act 2016.
Urban Art, unlike
graffiti vandalism, is legal
artwork where permission to
mark the surface has been
granted by the owner of the
property. Urban Art is often
known under many names
such as street art or mural art.
Who is the most famous street artist?
◦ BANKSY. Probably
the most famous street
artist in the
world, Banksy began
creating socially
conscious, satirical
stencils in his native
Bristol, UK, in the
early 1990s.
What are street artists called?
◦ A street artist is a person who makes art in
public places. Street artists include
portrait artists, caricaturists, graffiti artists,
muralists and people making crafts. Street
artists can also refer to street performers
such as musicians, acrobats, jugglers, living
statues, and street theatre performers.
In Lithuania you can find some amazing art
work too:
Conclusions:
◦ Street art has also impacted greatly on society, in the way that it helps show
and express how people feel about issues such as political issues.
◦ The interesting thing is that the average Salary for Street Artists is $83,388 per
year.
◦ Street art can have legal problems.
◦ Under US law, works of street art should be able to find copyright protection
as long as they are legally installed and can fulfill two additional conditions;
originality in the work, and that it is fixed in a tangible medium.
My opinion...
◦ My opinion about the street art is that it is
a very important part of today‘s modern
art. I don’t consider it as vandalism, I
think it is a modern and colourful thing to
express your various thoughts of different
kinds of things. It‘s not only an expression
of your thought, for example, political
issues, but it also makes neglected
buildings more vibrant and not boring. I
thing as time is going this type of art will
become more and more important
nowadays.
