WHAT ARE NOUNS?
A noun can be A PERSON, A PLACE, AN ANIMAL OR A THING

Countable nouns
Los nombres o sustantivos contables son aquellos que se pueden contar.

They have a plural form.

Examples:
• A pencil - pencils
• A Bird - Two birds
• ADog - Six dogs

The singular form can use the

determiner "a" or "an".
 Uncountable nouns
Los nombres o sustantivos incontables son aquellos que no podemos contar
porque no los podemos delimitar individualmente sino que forman parte de
un todo. Son tratados como singulares (no se pueden hacer plurales
añadiendo “-s”).

They don’t have plural form.

They are generally used with
abstract ideas, categories
Examples:
(funiture,clothes,money)
• Happiness
Or some food and drink
• Furniture
(mainly liquids)
• Money
• Salt
• Water
• Tea
• Sugar
• Bread
• Milk
We cannot use a/an with these nouns. • Juice
THE FOOD IS DIVIDED INTO COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE:
To turn uncountable nouns into
countable we can use CONTAINERS

Why is important to know about countable and uncountable nouns?

There is some milk(U). / There isn’t any milk.

There are some apples(C). / There aren’t any apples./ Are there any
apples?

SOME AFFIRMATIVE (plural nouns or uncountable nouns.)

ANY NEGATIVE - (plural nouns or uncountable

QUESTION nouns.)

There is some milk. / There is an apple.

There are some apples.

THERE IS Uncountable nouns

Countable singular nouns

THERE ARE Countable plural nouns.
