ADOLESCENT

Adolescence Age (13 to 18 Year Old)


• Is derived the Latin verb “Adolescere” which means to
grow into maturity
• It is a biosocial transition from childhood to adulthood
• It is based on childhood experiences and accomplishments.
• Adolescence refers to the behavioral characteristics of this
period that are influenced by physical and cultural changes
• Period of rapid physical and biological changes with may
leads to competence, tension, frustration and feeling of
insecurity
COMMON HEALTH PROBLEMS OF ADOLESCENT
HYPERTENSION
• high blood pressure.
• It can lead to severe health complications and increase the risk of heart
disease, stroke, and sometimes death.
 Is present if blood pressure is above 127/81 mmHG for 16-
year-old girls and 131/81 for 16-year-old boys.
 Adolescent who are obese, who are African American,
who eat diet high in salt or who have a family history of
hypertension are most susceptible to developing this
disease.
POOR POSTURE
 Poor posture is the posture that results from
certain muscles tightening up or shortening
while others lengthen and become weak,
which often occurs as a result of one's daily
activities. It may lead to pain, injury, or other
health problems.
 Due in part to the imbalance of growth,
the skeletal system growing a little more
rapidly than the muscles attached to it.
BODY PIERCING ABN TATTOOS
 Are becoming mark of adolescence. Both sexes have ears,
lips, chins,navels, and breast pierced and filled with
earings or tattoos applied to arms ,legs or their central
body.
 These acts have become a way for adolescences to make
a statement “I am different from you”
 The symptoms of infection at piercing or tattoos site
(redness, warmness, drainage, swelling, mild pain) and
to report these to a health care provider.
 Caution them that sharing needles for piercing or
tattooing carries the same risk.
FATIGUE
• overall feeling of tiredness or lack of energy.
 May be beginning symptom of disease.
 Assess an adolescent diet, sleep pattern , and
activity schedules because all cam contribute
greatly to fatigue.
MENSTRUAL IRREGULATIES
•  are problems with a girl's normal
monthly period. For example, girls may
miss periods, have them too frequently, have
painful periods, or have excessively heavy
flow.
ACNE
• skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles become plugged with
oil and dead skin cells. It causes whiteheads, blackheads or
pimples. Acne is most common among teenagers, though it affects
people of all ages

 Skin disorder occurring slightly more


frequently in boys than girls.
 Girls is 14 to 17year old
 Boys is 16 to 19year old
OBESITY
 Prevalence of obesity and overweight is higher in boys than in girls.
 Obesity has strong association with asthma, sleep disorder, reflux
disease, blount disease, slipped femoral epiphysis, gallstones, fatty
liver, and numerous metabolic derangements like type 2 diabetes,
dyslipidemia, hypertension and polycystic ovarian disease.
 Change in sedentary life style, decrease consumption of calorie dense
food and increase outdoor activity contribute to these disorders.
