HAT KIND OF SPEAKING
SHOULD STUDENT DO ?

It is imfortan to be clear about the kind of speaking this chapter is


talking about. We are not going to look at controlled language
practice where student say a lot of grammar or a particular function

There are three basic reasons why it
is a good idea to give students
speaking tasks which provoke then to
use all and any language at their
commad.

In the following four examples we are going to look at very different speaking activities, from puzzle-like tasks to more
involved role playing.
All the activities satisty the three reasons fror speaking tasks which we mentioned above.

It is important for teacher to correct mistake made during speaking activities
in a different way from the mistake made during study exercise.

The speaking activities in this chapter tend to follow the same basic pattern: Engage-Activate-Study - that
is, the teacher gets students interested in the topic, the students do the task while the teacher watches
and listens and they then study any language issues that the teacher has identified as being problems.
