safety? • Occupational health and safety is a cross- disciplinary area concerned with protecting the safety, health and welfare of people engaged in work. Objectives The objective of OHS standard is to protect working man against the dangers of injury, sickness or death through safe and healthful working conditions, thereby assuring the conservation of valuable manpower resources and the prevention of loss or damage to lives and properties. Personal Responsibilities for Safety • Observe all precautions related to your work. • Report unsafe conditions or nay equipment or materials you think might be unsafe. • Report any injury or ill health. • Be safety conscious. • Wear protective clothing. • Always inspect equipment and associated attachment for damage before using. What is Static Electricity? ESD is a fast, silent, invisible killer of PC components. There are two ways that static charge can build up to the point where an ESD becomes a danger: •Anything that moves or rubs against anything else has the potential to generate static electricity, which could result in ESD. •A spark resulting from a poor electrical connection or an unshielded or damaged cable is also a form of ESD. Symptoms of ESD Damage • A new component/replacement doesn’t work. • You’ve just carried out an upgrade/repair and a previously working component is no longer working. • A new component (or components) fails within one to two years of installation. Environmental Safety While Working Along With PC’s • Make sure that a flat surface of a good area is available when the system is assembled. Make sure that the room has enough space to move. • See that the place where the Computer is kept is dust free as dust can harm the system. • Make sure that the room has good ventilation and won't be very hot. • Check the grounding in the plug to make sure that earthing is done properly. • Work in a clear area, away from children and pets. Personal Safety While Working Along With PC’s 1. Always disconnect your system before beginning to work. 2. Always ground or discharge yourself before touching any part of the computer. 3. While working inside your computer, do not attempt to service the computer except as explained in this guide and elsewhere in product documentation. 4. Always follow the instructions closely. 5. Do not work on components that are plugged into their power source. 6. Keep liquids well away from the working area. 7. Be organized. 8. If you have long hair, tie it back and keep it out of the way. 9. Remove all jewelry when working inside any computer related equipment. 10.Keep small items away from the PC. 11.Don’t work in carpeted area. 12.Wear Anti-static wrist strap to protect from ESD.
