teacher in hele 5. Last time you’ve learned about
the basic sewing tools and Equipment.
Safety Rules in Sewing
OBJECTIVE

 Identify the different safety


rules in sewing
Safety rules in sewing involves observing good
sewing practices and safety habits. Exercise them
with care so that accidents in sewing will help you
prevent them to occur.
 Make sure there is
enough light
 Sit erect on the chair
directly in front of the
machine and use your
feet when treadling.
Don’t allow someone else
to work the foot pedal.
 Adjust the sewing
machine to the
correct setting before
you begin.
 Arrange the units or
parts of the garment
beside you so as not
to be disturbed while
sewing.
 The left foot is
higher than the right
foot
 Do not leave pins,
needles and other
sewing materials
lying anywhere. Use
the pincushion for
pins and needles
 Use thimble when
sewing by hands
 Keep your eyes on
the needle
 Use the scissors for
cutting the thread.
Do not bite the
thread.
 Keep your fingers
away from the
needles
 Switch the machine
off when you have
finished and unplug
immediately after
every used.
 Take care for Sewing Machine

1. Wipe the machine with oil to keep off dust and dirt.
2. Oil the moving parts regularly.
3. Never use water to clean any part of the sewing machine
to avoid rust.
4. Cover the machine when not in use.
5. Avoid moving the machine frequently, as this may loosen
the parts.
