Boss versus Leader

BOSS

A boss is a leader who exercises control

and authority; one who directs and
supervises.

A boss’ authority and control is

governed by the organization’s vision
and goals; policies, rules or regulations.
It is the authority that enables
the boss to take the lead; has the
final decision; take on the
accountability; and bring the
members to achieve the goals
of the organization collectively.
When bosses abuse their
authority and control they can
become egoistic (self-centered),
demanding, rigid (strict) and
focused on task rather than
people.
A leader is a boss who exercises authority
and control, and supervision in a more
individualized manner.

A leader uses both position and charisma

(charm; a magnetic appeal) in order to
influence members to work as a person and
as a member of the organization.
A leader brings out the best in
every member of the
organization making them more
motivated, creative, committed
and loyal to the organization.
When leaders overly use their
charisma (influence or appeal) they
may bring the members of the
organization to fanatic state towards
them and not to the organization.
