VENTILATION

Ventilation- Ventilation means to changing the air in an

enclosed space.
System of ventilation –
1. Natural ventilation
2. Mechanical ventilation
NATURAL VENTILATION
 Natural ventilation - Natural ventilation is the process of supplying air to and
removing air from an indoor space without using mechanical systems. It refers to
the flow of external air to an indoor space as a result of pressure differences arising
from natural forces.
 The benefits of natural ventilation - 1) inprove indoor air quality 2) energy saving 3)
occupant control 4) incresed worker's productivity. 5) reduction in occupent illness
associcated with stick building syndrome.
MECHANICAL VENTILATION
 Mechanical ventilation- Mechanical ventilation is the medical term for artificial
ventilation wheremechanical means is used to assist or replace spontaneous
breathing.
 Benefits of mechanical ventilation - 1)Better indoor air quality- can remove
pollutant. 2) more control- provide proper fresh air flow along with Appropriate
location. 3) improve comfort- allow the constant flow of outside air into building .
INDOOR AIR QUALITY
INTRACIRCULATION

TWO TYPES:-
 INTRACIRCULATION - no ventilation inside
 EXTRACIRCULATION:
1. split ac EXTRACIRCULATION
2. Centrilised AC - air cooled ac and Water cooled
Ac
3. Package ac
4. Window ac
CASE STUDY ON VIDHAN SABHA (BHOPAL) - CHARLES
CORREA
 CONCEPT -
The circular form that was developed for the project has
numerous and important connotations in metaphysical terms, it
symbolizes both equality and self-containment, that is,
autonomy.
 Vidhan Bhavan is a public building which should say something
very powerful about democracy.
 The concept used by Charles Correa is a total break with
modernism and postmodernism.
 The architect has developed a deep understanding of the Vedic
principles of architecture, from which has emerged an
extraordinary synthesis of the totally traditional with the totally
modern, “The Kund”, a space that is ritually dedicated to the god
Surya and that is a point central to the ancient and medieval
architecture in India and almost a signature of Charles Correa
 SPACES -
The path that ascends to the main access of the building is not axial, but follows an irregular pattern
contouring the hill and because the courtyards and gardens of the building were developed within a
space surrounded by an almost continuous circular walls.
 According to the requirements there are 3 main entries or “dwars”. For the public through the Kund,
another for the members of the legislature and ministers (MLA’s -Members of Legislative Assembly) and
another for the president.
 The general plane consists of a series of spaces within other spaces, divided into a pattern of nine
compartments (common in mandalas) that focus around a center that represents nothingness. On two
perpendicular axes, which emanate from a central courtyard, are the administrative offices.
● According to the Indian vastushastra the courtyard should be
in the centre of the building (bharamhasthan)
● The door should be in ishanya direction.
FIRE ESCAPE

 Firefighting are used in all buildings.

 A fire escape is a special kind of emergency
exit, usually mounted to the outside of a
building or occasionally inside but separate
from the main areas of the building. It
provides a method of escape in the event of
a fire or other emergency that makes the
stairwells inside a building inaccessible.
 Signature and directions were provided
oneach floor of the building.
1) Improper Storage of flammable
material in fire escape staircase.
2) hose reel system adjust to the
staircase.
3) curved design makes insuffienet
use of fire saftey staircase.
 Fire exist door are open by
push bar.
 speaker should provided on fire
exist for guidence in
emergency.
SMOKE DECTECTER

1) A smoke detector is a device that senses smoke,

typically as an indicator of fire.

2) smoke dectector are typically housed in a disc-

shaped plastic enclosed about 150 mm in diameter
and 25 mm in thick.

3) Smoke dectector in large commercial , industrial and

Residential buildings are usally powered by central
fire alarm system which is powered by the building
power with the battery backup.
