ASIA
Asia is the largest of the world’s continents, covering
approximately 30 percent of the Earth’s land area. It is also
the world’s most populous continent, with roughly 60
percent of the total population.
Asia is a continent in the eastern and northern hemispheres.
It is located east of Europe, north of the Indian Ocean, and it
is bordered on the east by the Pacific Ocean and on the
north by the Arctic Ocean. Asia includes the
Philippines Islands and Indonesia.
It occupies one third of the total land area of the world. It
covers an area of 16,838,365 KM2. The hhighest mountain
peak Mount Everest and lowest part Dead Sea also lies inn
Asia.
It is located in between 800N to 100S and 250E to 1800E.
World’s largest lake Caspian Sea and deepest lake Baikal also
lies here.
PHYSICAL FEATURES OF ASIA
1) THE NORTHERN LOWLAND : It extend from Ural mountain
in the west to the Bering Strait in the north-west. The
rivers, Yensey and Lena flow northwards through this
plain. There is very cold temperature.

2) THE CENTRAL MOUNTAINS AND PLATEAUE : The Central


Mountain is located in the South of northern lowlandof
Asia. The Himalayas and Tien Shan, The Karakoram, The
Kunlum, The Suleman etc mountain range are found in this
region. There are some plateau in between the mountain
ranges in this region. The Tibetan Plateau, the world’s
highest plateau located here.

3) THE SOUTHERN PLATEAU : These plateau are located in


the south of the Central Mountain. The Arabian plateau
Deccan plateau and the shan and Yunan plateaus.

4) THE GREAT RIVER VALLEY : Some of the large and
important river valleys of this region are formed by Tigris,
Euphrates, Indus, Ganges, Brahmputra, Menon, Yangtse and
Hwang Ho Rivers. The valley of these rivers are fertile and
dense population.
5) THE SOUTH EASTERN ISLAND CHAINS : There are different
island chains in the east and south-eastern Asia. Some of the
islands are Japanese island, the island of Philipines and
Indonesian Island. These iskand chains have tropical and
temperate monsoon climate.

6) SOUTH-WEST DESERT REGION : There are hot deserts with


dry climate in this region. This region consists of the Arabian
Peninsula mainly the gulf countries. It has tropical desert
climate and rich in petroleum and natural gas.
ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES OF THE PEOPLE OF ASIA
1) More people in Asia are involve in agriculture. It is mainly
carried out in the river valleys. Major crops grown here
are rice, wheat, maize, jjute, bananas, rubber etc.
2) Animal rearing is also another economic activity of the
people of Asia. The nomadic tribes of Saudi Arabia and
Kirgghiz of Central Asia practice animal rearing. They rear
camels, goats, sheeps, cattle etc.
3) The people living in coastal regions of Asia are involved in
fishing. Fishing is developing as an industry in Japan,
Russia, China, India, South Korea, Srilanka and
Bangladesh.
4) More people in Asia are also involved inn minerals and
power based industries. The people in China, Japan,
Russia, Malaysia, India, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Iran
etc are involved in this sectors.
CLIMATE AND NATURAL VEGETATION OF ASIA
The Southern sections of Asia are mild to hot, while
far northeastern areas such as Siberia are very cold.
East Asia has a temperate climate. ... West-
central Asia experiences some of the largest diurnal
temperature ranges on Earth.

An immense range of vegetation is found in Asia,


the result of the continent’s wide ddiversity of
latitude, elevation, and climate. Natural conditions,
however, are not entirely responsible for the
associations of trees, plants, and grasses of Asia;
natural landscapes have been transformed by more
than eight millennia of farming and other human
activities.
