BTS, Lady Gaga Win at MTV Europe Awards
The South Korean pop group BTS won four awards at the MTV Europe Music Awards
on November 8, more than any other group or singer. Their awards included best
group and best song for "Dynamite," while Lady Gaga took the best artist prize.
The show was hosted by girl group Little Mix and included performances from Alicia
Keys, Sam Smith, Doja Cat and DaBaby.
Lady Gaga, who went into the event with the most nominations, beat Harry Styles,
Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus and The Weeknd to win best artist.
The best video award went to DJ Khaled for "Popstar," which he made in collaboration
with Drake. "Popstar" also beat "WAP" from Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, among
others.
Cardi B did win the best hip hop artist award, however. Coldplay won best rock artist,
Haley Williams got best alternative artist and Little Mix was chosen as best pop artist.
David Guetta, who won best electronic artist, also performed at the show from a stage
in Budapest.
For a third year, the MTV Europe Music Awards gave out a "generation change" award,
this time to five women fighting racism and social problems around the world: Kiki
Mordi, Temi Mwale, Catherhea Potjanaporn, Luiza Brasil and Raquel Willis.
Rock guitarist and songwriter Eddie Van Halen, who died in October, was also
remembered in a tribute from artists including Tom Morello and St. Vincent.
