m None of these are frauds or fakes m 1)Strange Designs m 2)Defences m 3)Hunting/Feeding/Killing m 4)Hybrids m Nicknamed ¶The Dumbo Octopus· because of the fins at the top of its head-like body resembling the ear of Disney·s Dumbo the Flying Elephant, and is one of the rarest types of octopus. m They live deeper than any other octopus, from 3000-7000m below sea level. m The largest Dumbo Octopus was 6ft long and weighed 13lbs. m They swim just above the sea floor, eating worms, bivalves, pelagic copepods and other crustaceans. m They move by waving their fins, shooting water through their funnel or pulsing their arms. m Male and female Dumbo Octopi are very different. m 18 species of the Dumbo Octopus have been discovered. m Though it is an amphibian (originating from Mexico), it retains its gills and aquatic nature and design. m They can regenerate most of their body parts. m Axolotls are critically endangered in the wild. m They range from 15-45cm,and feature many aspects of a salamander larvae (neotonic). m Axolotls are carnivores, eating worms, small fish and insects. m arge white Hungarian breed of the ivestock Guardian Dog, and are one of Hungary·s national treasures. m Komondors were brought to Hungary in the 1100s by the Cumans, and were fist recorded in history in 1544. m They are around 75cm tall, and are muscular and have the largest coat in the canine world. m They have a natural ¶guardian instinct· and known to be used to guard livestock and fend off predators. They are also very aggressive to trespassers and wary of strangers. However, it is very affectionate with friends and family. m The 'hairy' pincers contain filamentous bacteria, which the creature may use to detoxify poisonous minerals from the water emitted by the hydrothermal vents where it lives. Alternatively, it may feed on the bacteria, although it is thought to be a general carnivore. Its diet also consists of green algae and small shrimp. m Tarsiers have enormous eyes and long feet. Their feet have extremely elongated tarsus bones, which is how they got their name. They are primarily insectivorous, and catch insects by jumping at them. They are also known to prey on birds and snakes. As they jump from tree to tree, tarsiers can catch even birds in motion. All tarsier species are nocturnal in their habits. m The English name narwhal is derived from the Dutch name narwal which in turn comes from the Danish narhval which is based on the Old Norse word nar, meaning "corpse." This is a reference to the animal's colour. The narwhal is also commonly known as the Moon Whale. m Narwhals! m The leafy sea dragon·s appearance is used as camouflage . Its fins are almost invisible. The creature resembles a slightly large sea horse. It is found in the waters of Australia. m Found in Malaysia and Brunei. m When the colony is threatened, if combat has failed, it will commit an explosive suicidal act via autothysis. This causes the ant to spray a strong poison in all directions, and to shoot a glue like substance out of its mandibles to entangle the foes, letting the poison slowly kill them. m Found in Central Africa. m The Hairy Frog is only around 11cm long, and is a carnivore from birth, with several rows of horned teeth, feeding on slugs, myriapods, spiders, beetles and grasshoppers. m Their defence mechanism is a set of retractable claws made of sharp bone. However, to do this, it breaks its own bones and pierces through its skin, intentionally. No one has yet seen the claws retracted clearly, but it is thought that it happens inactively, with the skin regenerating. m Öarasitic fresh water catfish native to the Amazon river. m Adults grow to around 15cm, and have translucent bodies. They also often travel in large groups. Their main feature , however, are their rows of backwards pointing teeth in their circular mouth. m To catch its prey, it detects the streams of water made by a fish·s gills. It then sticks itself into the skin of the fish with its backwards teeth, and eats by either feeding off the blood, or even spinning to drill through the meat, leaving large gaping holes. They then sink to the bottom of the river to digest their meal. m They are also the only known vertebrates to be parasites attacking humans. m ocated in Öapa New Guinea, and discovered in 1989. m This is the first ever documented poisonous bird, containing the chemical homobatrachotoxin, the same chemical found in the poison dart frog, making it the world·s most poisonous bird. m It is thought that it could obtain the poison through the Choresine beetles which it eats, as the birds have different poison levels. m If the bird is scratched or touched only partly, only numbness is felt. If a high quantity of the poison is taken in, side effects may include paralysis and death. m A Wholphin is the rare breed between a male false killer whale, and a female bottlenose dolphin. The offspring is not sterile. m Only 2 in captivity, but they have been argued to exist in the wild. m The first ever Wholphin made in captivity has given birth to three children, but only one has survived (although another did survive to the age of 9). m By inserting certain parts of spider DNA into goat embryos, scientists have created the hybrid between a spider and a goat. m The spider goat acts almost exactly the same as a normal goat, but produces a web like substance ,instead of milk, much like those found in spiders m The reason this was created was to produce a web like substance in large quantities, as it is one of the strongest and most flexible substance on Earth
