• Yes, we have an action plan on Gender and GBV which has already been
put into practice since September 2010.
• ACTION PLAN.
• Road maintenance by the system HIMO (use of intensive manpower:
October –February 2010)
• Awareness raising within responsibles of council (07/12/10 to 10/01/11)
• Estalishment of a committee for water management (15/12/10 to 20/01/11)

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR BOTH WOMEN AND MEN?

• During the elaboration of the council’s budget, the

members of the counselors have voted unanimously
for the adoption of a budget for the fight against
violence.
• We have led sensitizations on the fight against GBV
during which many men realized the importance of
gender approach.

• During the works of road infrastructures,
many women participated.

• During the International day for the fight

against violence, many men participated
also.

• Apart from its budget, the council leads

also fund raising activities:
organization of fair,concerts…
negociation within PTF and Henri
Fraise.
• Human ressources: all the personal of
the council were
mobolized,associations of women with
their partners.

 MONITORING AND EVALUATION

• Constitution of an equip of monitoring

• Establishment of statistics on the rate of
violence (especially rape) in the
council.
• Women take responsibilities in the
different activities of development
within the council.
• Monthly report.

communication during
periodicalmeetings(exchanges of ideas
and discussions between participants)
• Monthly evaluation for each activity.

 WHAT RESULTS HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED?

• 5,5 kilometers of road maintenance achieved withthe

participation of 30% of women in the council.
• Many women are taking their responsibilities thanks to the
project.
• Financial support of Mrs SYLVANA Edwige, a girl of 15
years old, by the council so that she can follow her
studies.

• This system sustainable and can be

replicated but it needs conviction and
willingness.

 LESSONS LEARNED
CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

• We can have good results if women and

men really work together. It means that
gender issue should be integrated in
every sectors of activity.
• In order to make this practice a long-
lasting one, we intend to continue our
actions:
-Special emissions on radio and on

television about the theme.

-Displaying posters treating gender.

-Distribution of pamphlets explaining the

notion of gender.
