Cloud Computing

Cloud Computing…
• Cloud Computing is an emerging approach
to share infrastructure in which large pools
of systems are linked together to provide IT
services.
• It a metaphor for the Internet.
• It is a computing paradigm.
• It is used to refer to large ATM networks in
the early 1990s.
• It can be described as “on-demand
computing”.
Cloud Computing…
• It refers to the sourcing of some capability.
• A cloud computing platform dynamically
provisions, configures, reconfigures, and
deprovisions servers as needed.
• It requires the use of software and is a way to
increase capacity or add capabilities on the fly
without investment.
• It gives a new dimension to online computing.
• Cloud computing service is a necessity.
Cloud Computing –
Working…

• Cloud computing aims to apply a

kind of power in a way that users
can tap through the Web.
• It networks large groups of servers.
Architecture

• The architecture behind cloud

computing is a massive network.
• The cloud computing infrastructure
consists of reliable services.
• The Cloud appears as a single point of
access for all the computing needs of
consumers.

Example :
Blue Cloud is supported by IBM
Tivoli software that manages
servers to ensure optimal
performance based on demand.
Cloud Computing -
Categories
• Hardware cloud : It allows us to use its hardware
– servers, storage, network to run our enterprise
applications store our data ,etc.
Eg.Amazon’s Elastic computer cloud.
• Software cloud : Here the provider manages the
hardware and software capacity needed to
support the required number of seats and service
level we want. Eg.Salesforce.com
• Desktop cloud : This runs the desktop
applications such as word processing or
spreadsheets from a hardware cloud through the
internet. Eg.Google Docs.
Cloud Computing -
Networks
• Also referred to as a network cloud.
• A standard protocol suite such as
Frame Relay is used to transmit the
data which enters the network cloud.
• The data emerges from the cloud --
where it may be encapsulated,
translated and transported in myriad
ways.
Benefits of Cloud Computing
• It accelerates and fosters the
adoption of innovations.
• It alleviates the need of innovators.
• Innovators are free to focus on the
innovation.
• It allows enterprises to achieve more
efficient use of their IT hardware and
software investments.
• It increases profitability.
Security
• It is the single biggest issue for
most companies.
• It is built into the DNA of the
products by physical protection of
data centers, measures to prevent
net work attacks and procedures
for deploying secure code…
Performance
• It’s not fast enough to handle large
transaction if the applications have
to access their databases through
the Internet.
• To solve the performance problem,
another type of cloud—a full
ecosystem of enterprise SaaS plus
database as a service, all within a
single hardware cloud.
Advantages of the Cloud
• A prescripted and abstracted
infrastructure.
• Fully virtualized.
• Equipped with dynamic infrastructure
software.
• Pay by use.
• Free of long term contracts.
• Application and OS independent.
• Free of software and hardware installation.
Conclusion…

Three issues—where data

resides, the security of software and
data against malicious attacks, and
performance requirements—may
well determine the direction in which
cloud computing evolves and its very
success.
