INTRODUCTION

 4G is the fourth generation technology to achieve the goals

of true broadband cellular service.
 fourth generation mobile communications systems that are
characterized by high-speed data rates at 20 to 100 mbps,
suitable for high-resolution movies and television
 We can also define 4G as a network of network with which users will be
in control. They will be able to decide the right system and even the
right terminal for each application and for each environment .
MAGIC DEFINATION OF 4G

 4G can be described by the term “MAGIC” which stands for

M Mobile multimedia
A Anytime anywhere
G Global mobility support
I Integrated wireless solutions
C Customized personal services
 4GAnytime, Anywhere Connection is also known as MOBILE
BROADBAND EVERY WHERE .
REASONS BEHIND
DEVELOPMENT OF 4G

FOR CONJUMERS :
 Video streaming, TV broadcast.
 Video calls, video clips – news, music, sports.
 Enhanced gaming, chat, location services…

FOR BUSINESS :
 High speed teleworking
 Sales force automation
 Video conferencing
 Real-time financial information

4G DATA RATE FACT

 Transmission at 20 Mbps
 2000 times faster than mobile data rates
 10 times faster than top transmission rates planned in final
build out of 3G broadband service .
 10-20 times faster than standard ADSL(Asymmetric Digital
Subscriber Line) services.

HOW 4G WORKS

 4G works on OFDM translation.

 OFDM translation is the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing.
 In OFDM the signal is divided into parallel data streams carried
over closely-spaced radio sub-channels, to be reassembled at the
far end.
KEY TECHNOLOGY USED IN 4G

WIMAX
 WIMAX stands for WORLDWIDE INTEROPERABILITY FOR
MICROWAVE ACESS.
 WIMAX is a digital communication system.
 It is based on OFDM technology.
 WIMAX can provide broadband wireless access (BWA) up to 30 miles
(50 km) for fixed stations, and 3 - 10 miles (5 - 15 km) for mobile
stations.
 IEEE802.16a and IEEE802.20 are the WIMAX standards.
WIBRO
 WiBro stands for WIRELESS BROADBAND .
 It is a KORIAN technology.
 8.75 mhz channel bandwidth.
 IEEE 802.16 e and IEEE802.22 are the WiBro standards.

ADVANTAGES

 Support interactive multimedia services teleconferencing,

wireless internet, etc.
 Wider bandwidths, higher rates.
 Global mobility and service portability.
 Scalability of mobile networks.
 High bandwidths enables a range of new application.
 Entirely packet-switched networks .
 Higher bandwidth to provide multimedia service @ lower cost ( up to
100mbps ) .
 Tight network security .
KILLER APPLICATION OF 4G

 Visualized virtual navigation.

 TELEPROGRESSING : GIS , GPS
 Life saving : Telemedicine
 Voice over internet protocol (VoIP) for IPv6
LIMITATIONS

Although the concepts of 4G communication shows much promise,

there are still limitations that must be addressed .
 Cost is factor that could hamper the progress of 4G technology.
 Another one is Operating area. As regards the operating area, rural area
and many buildings in metropolitan areas are not being served well by
existing wireless networks .
 High power usage.
