judson”
• It was developed by Gideon
Sundback a swedish born
scientist in 1913 and
patented as “hookless
Fastener”
• Again in 1917 with more
improvements he patented
as the “separable Fastener”

• First metal zipper is made in 1893
• It is available in 4 different finishes:
 Alumunium
 Brass
 Antique
 Black oxidized.
• They are classic, found mostly in jeans
today
• In this individual pieces of metal moulded
into shape and set on the zipper tape.
• It is basically made from flat wire, only few
companies in world have the technology.

• These are made of plastic

• These zippers have individually injected
molded teeth and directly fused onto the tape
of the zipper
• These are very strong, used instead of metal
zipper
• These are used for medium & heavy weight
garments
• It available in many colors

 Coil chain(nylon) zippers
• Coil zippers oftenly referred as “nylon zippers”
• The teeth of the zippers are extrauded plastic sown
onto the zipper tape
• These are very flexible and available in different sizes
• These are used in many ways from fashon wear to all
kind of tents, bags etc.
• It is also known as polyster zippers
• Two basic types of coils used:
 One with coils in spiral form “Ruhrmann” type
 Second is ladder type
