 CENTRAL ELECTRICITY BOARD

 CENTRAL WATER AUTHORITY
 MTML, EMTEL, AND MAURITIUS
TELECOM
ELECTRICAL SERVICES
 Mainly two types of network (HV & LV)
 Single phase distribution
 Incoming voltage and current is 230V / 63A
 Pole mounted cabling to metering cubicle via

consumer unit.
 Electricity is distributed through the entire

site via 3C x 4mm2 cables.

 Street lightning also is provided and on site

lightning.
ELECTRICAL SERVICES
 A consumer unit is a box of fuses or breakers
, usually arranged in a single row.
ELECTRICAL SERVICES
 Lightning system used for underpass
 Equa 250W(tubular high pressure sodium ST )
 Six 50 KVA pole mounted CEB step down

transformers being used to provide power for

the entire ring road.
Telecommunication services
 MTML : use for wireless telephony service
 Emtel : wireless broadband
 Mauritius telecom : fax service
Public health
 Oulet pipe 160mm Hdpe from reservoir to feed
site. (CWA)
 Plumbing : Distribution of water on site through
9 points via 25mm Hdpe (high density
polyethylene) pipe.
 Two tanks 9000 litres each to ensure continuous
provision of water on site using a pump.
 Waste disposal in artificial septic tanks.
 Carbon Dioxide (CO2) extinguishers , they are
used for class B and class C fires.
Public heath (fire extinguishers)
 Class B fires involve flammable or
combustible liquids such as gasoline,
kerosene, grease and oil. The numerical
rating for class B extinguishers indicates the
approximate number of square feet of fire it
can extinguish.
 Class C fires involve electrical equipment,

such as appliances, wiring, circuit breakers

and outlets. The C classification means the
extinguishing agent is non-conductive.
Mechanical services
 Air conditioning using split systems
 The split air conditioning comprises of two

parts: the outdoor unit and the indoor unit. The

outdoor unit, fitted outside the room, houses
components like the compressor, condenser
and expansion valve. The indoor unit comprises
the evaporator or cooling coil and the cooling
fan.
 Water pump : Distribution pump for water

supply on site, 8 bars delivering pressure.

Air Conditioning
 Air conditioning may be required in buildings which have a
high heat gain and as a result a high internal temperature.

 The heat gain may be from solar radiation and/or internal

gains such as people, lights anIf air conditioning is the only
answer to adequate comfort in a building then the main
choice of system can be considered.

 Full comfort air conditioning can be used in summer to

provide cool air (approx. 13oC to 18oC) in summer and warm
air (approx. 28oC to 36oC) in winter.
 Also the air is cleaned by filters, dehumidified to remove

moisture or humidified to add moisture.

.
Split Systems
 The split air conditioner comprises of two parts:
the outdoor unit and the indoor unit. The
outdoor unit, fitted outside the room, houses
components like the compressor, condenser and
expansion valve. The indoor unit comprises the
evaporator or cooling coil and the cooling fan.
For this unit you don’t have to make any slot in
the wall of the room. Further, the present day
split units have aesthetic looks and add to the
beauty of the room. The split air conditioner can
be used to cool one or two rooms.
 ELECTRICAL
Domestic Electrical Installation

 Most domestic premises receive a single-phase supply of electricity from an area electricity
board at a rating of 240 volts and frequency of 50 hertz.
 The area electricity board's cable, from which the domestic supply is taken, consists of four

lines, three lines each carrying a 240 volt supply and the fourth is the common return line or
neutral which is connected to earth at the transformer or substation as a safety precaution
should a fault occur on the electrical appliance. Each line or phase is tapped in turn together
with the neutral to provide the single-phase 240 V supply.

 ELECTRICITY BOARD INTAKE

  The supply or intake cable may enter the building through an underground duct or via an

overhead supply.
 An underground supply is preferred since all of the electrical service is hidden.
 The supply cable is terminated in the area board’s fused sealing chamber which should be

sited in a dry accessible position. From the sealing chamber the supply passes through the
meter, which records the electricity consumed in units of kilowatt/hours, to the consumer
unit which has a switch controlling the supply to the circuit breakers or circuit fuses.

 These fuses are a protection against excess current or overload of the circuit since when
overloading occurs, the fuse or circuit breaker will isolate the circuit from the source of the
problem.
PUBLIC HEALTH
 Public health services focus on providing safe,
healthy, hygienic, efficient and sustainable
systems that are sensitive to the local
environment. Design skills and services include:
 Water supply, sanitation and water recycling.
 Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).

 Recreational water systems.

 Waste management systems and strategies.
 Infrastructure, from sewerage systems to land

drainage
Drainage System
 Drainage schemes for buildings are necessary to remove waste water, foul
water and surface water.

 Waste water and foul water join together and are disposed in a septic tank
or to a foul water sewer pipe .

 The foul water sewer discharges the sewerage to a treatment plant where
it is settled, filtered and chemically treated.

 Surface water can be discharged into a soakaway (or Storm Water) drain in
urban areas. The storm water drain discharges water safely to a river or
lake.

 A separate system of drainage is used where foul water and surface water
are separated at source and piped individually to a surface water drain or
foul water drain
Conclusion
 All this work is monitored and control by the service
engineer.
 The main role of Services engineers in construction projects
is to supervise the specialize workers in handling all the
Services works considering the safety and quality
requirements. The Service engineer in the construction site
also reads and studies the M&E plans (usually done by M&E
design engineers) and implement it in the site and
sometimes do necessary actions whether to correct or to
improve the design. They coordinate with other M&E
engineers in the implementation of the Services system
design and also with other engineers of different fields, such
as civil and mechanical engineers, to make the construction
job easier.
