• The predecessor organizations of today's U.S. Air Force
are:
– Aeronautical Division, U.S. Signal Corps(1.8.1907-18.7.1914)
– Aviation Section, U.S. Signal Corps(18.7.1914-20.5.1918)
– Division of Military Aeronautics(20-24.5.1918)
– U.S. Army Air Service(24.5.1918-2.7.1926)
– U.S. Army Air Corps(2.7.1926-20.6.1941)
– U.S. Army Air Forces(20.6.1941-17.9.1947)
• Air Forces become separate military service in 18.9.1947
with the implementation of the National Security Act of
1947
• In 2007 the USAF implemented large reduction in force
due to the budget constraints

duty

ballistic missiles

Aircrafts-Ground attack
• Aircrafts are designed to
attack targets on the
ground
• They are often deployed
as close air support to US

• They have very little
ability to engage in arial
combat
• Distinction between
bombers, fighter-bombers

mobility
