 Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Atharva Veda and Sama
Veda.
 The second stage includes the production of
Upanishads.
 Upanishads are collections of Hindu writings.
 The third stage is the rise of the ruling Brahman
class.
 The Brahmic era was disrupted in 1757.

Thaipusam
• dedicated to Lord Muruga, is celebrated every year on the full
moon in the Tamil month of Thai (January or February) in
hilltop temples and draw large crowds of the faithful. (1m
people -10k tourists)
• Atonement, Decication and Thanksgiving
• Kavadi Attam is a dance performed by the devotees during the
ceremonial worship of Murugan, the Tamil God of War
• Devotees prepare for the celebration by cleansing themselves
through prayer and fasting approx-48 days before Thaipusam.
• Shave their head, carrying a pot of milk and mortification of
the flesh by piercing the skin, toungue or cheeks with vel
skewers.
