m Airport security are constantly dealing with passengers and

potential threats to civil aviation. Airport and Airline security both

belongs to the category of 'Aviation Security' or generally known
as 'AVSEC' in aviation terms. Their need is due to the
requirements that is set by the International Civil Aviation
Organization ( ICAO ) under the Annex 17, "Safeguarding
International Civil Aviation Against Acts of Unlawful Interference"
which primarily deals with anti hijack, anti sabotage and anti
pilferage measures. Airport security generally do baggage
screenings right after ( or before ) check-in and at times, drug
sniffing ( K9 unit ) for drugs and explosive devices.
Methodologies and technologies countering the threat , including
passenger screening, X-ray, explosive trace detection, profiling,
etc.

m assengers are asked to bear in mind the following advice
to help make their passage through the airport as efficient
and comfortable as possible. ëë Regulation on hand
luggage for international bound passengers. Effective May
21.2007 ( Monday ) This is the easy formula for airline
carry-on baggage and established by TSA that mandates
that passenger can only carry liquids, aerosols and gels in
three-ounce ( 100ml ) containers, which should be safely
kept inside a one-quart, plastic zip- top bag. This includes
common items such as toothpaste, shampoo and food.
racticing 3-1-1 will ensure a faster and easier checkpoint
experience.

m There are stride being made in the right direction regarding
increasing standards of airport security personnel. The first
recommendation is to hire a higher caliber individual to truly
professionalize the aviation security industry. Other
recommendations are £
6
    to include higher academic
requirements.
B
to all airport personnel including
ticket agents.
6 to give aviation security professionals more
authority then merely observe
     that involve an agility test
     should have credentials that include
special operations experience
m Œacilities Management process considers risk
management in airports in the delivery of airport
services, particularly in the area of airport safety and
security. Lessons from past incidents helped in
formulating new processes the various hijacking in
the past from the basis of the present day security at
the airport. The best defence against all this incident
is a good security measures to prevent unauthorised
access to aircraft any where in the airport. Serious
security checks to stop anybody staff and
passengers from slipping anything on board aircraft.
Efforts must be made to stop the terrorist before
they get to the aircraft.
m Technology is a necessary tool in the field of airport security. The advances of airport
security technology enhance the overall security process, not only as a deterrent, but
also to provide a greater range of observation and detection. Key to success is in
introducing a scalable solution that is capable of managing all aspects of the security
solution centrally. Complex and outdated security plans combined with legacy
technology may be contributing to inefficiencies in airport security and operations,
leading to time delays congestion and ultimately sharp declines in passenger volume.
While the list of systems that contribute to airport security is endless, some of the
common systems include; baggage screening and handling ( e.g., RŒIh, EhS )
access control, intrusion and perimeter detection, security intelligence, metal detectors
and video surveillance. Video surveillance is an important component to any airport
security plan. Incorporating video analytics has the capacity of identifying unattended
baggage, abnormal behavioural patterns, including erratic vehicle and passenger flow.
Together they enhance to security solutions, especially if that have a significant number
of video streams to monitor.
m In this post-September 11 world of increased airport
security, passenger really need to be informed and
prepared. The Transportation Security Administration
has developed standardized security screening
procedures for all airports. Although flying has never
been safer, there are increased wait times and there
is a long list of items that should not be packed in
checked or carry-on luggage. These are the obvious
things like explosives, but there are other, seemingly
harmless items, that are prohibited.
m The first priority is to ensure the safety of everyone using the
airport, but beyond this passengers need to have a fast and
stress-free passage through security. That is why the target is for
at least 95% of passengers to queue for ten minutes or less at
security search area. Regularly review and initiate surveys and
research can improve to understanding of passenger
expectations and views. With this information can develop and
invest in the right services, products and facilities at the KLIA.
Œeedback from passengers on this performance is hugely
important to the management. The main measure is the Airport
Service of Quality ( ASQ ) which was established in 1991. ASQ
survey is the world's leading airport customer satisfaction
benchmark programme with over 130 airports in more than 45
countries surveying their passengers every month of the year.
All airports use the same questionnaire and follow the same
methodology.
