Social Pressure - definition

Peer pressure refers to the influence exerted by a peer group in encouraging a person to change his or her attitudes, values, or behavior in order to conform to group norms.

In management, benign peer pressure refers to a technique used to boost team members' motivation, proactiveness and self goal settings. It's one useful tool in leadership. Instead of direct delegation of tasks and results demanding, employees are in this case, induced into a behaviour of self propelled performance and innovation, by comparison feelings towards their peers. There are several ways peer pressure can be induced in a working environment. Examples are: training, team meetings. Training since the team member is in contact with people with comparable roles in other organizations. Team meetings since there will be an implicit comparison between every team member especially if the meeting agenda is the presentation of results and goal statu

My friendships are really affected by social networking. You have to constantly validate your friends online. And everyone s like Where were you? What have you been doing? Why haven t you commented on my picture yet? So you have to be online all the time, just to keep track, so you don t upset anyone.

I ve become very good at taking pictures of myself. I know what angle is best, I know how to part my lips...you know. It s like the number one thing on my mind is I need to get home right now and take a new profile picture. All because I want someone to comment on how I look.

I m online even during class. I m supposed to be taking notes but instead I m commenting on stuff and uploading pictures.

There s more life happening online than offline. If you are not online, you are completely out of the loop--you don t have a life, you don t really exist.

Nivea Pulls Ad, Apologizes After Racism Accusations

"Is this ad racist?" demands that Rihanna drop her association with Nivea "Nivea claims that black people aren't civilized." Others called the ad "unapologetically racist."

"Thank you for caring enough to give us your feedback about the recent 'Re-civilized' NIVEA FOR MEN ad. This ad was inappropriate and offensive. It was never our intention to offend anyone, and for this we are deeply sorry. This ad will never be used again. Diversity and equal opportunity are crucial values of our company." In a longer statement Beiersdorf, Nivea's parent company, said, "Beiersdorf, as a company, represents diversity, tolerance and equal opportunity. Direct and indirect discrimination must be ruled out in all decisions and in all areas of the company."

Adults Behave Better When Teddy Bears Are in the Room

Finding
Adults are less likely to cheat and more likely to engage in pro-social behaviors when reminders of children, such as teddy bears and crayons, are present. we found that when subjects were near toys or engaged in activities like watching cartoons, the number of cheaters dropped almost 20%. Our hypothesis focuses on the idea of purity. Child-related cues might unconsciously activate notions of goodness and drive us to get to a pure state and not want to pollute it. Neuroscience has shown that oxytocin is released when people are exposed to kids, and oxytocin is associated with pro-social behavior.

One suggestion is to put day-care facilities on corporate campuses. Not only would it make parents more relaxed about their kids, but it might also have a positive influence on everyone s behavior. It could lead to a more ethical climate. perhaps pictures of children in cubicles would encourage people to act better.

How Social Media Is Putting Huge Pressure On SMS

The emergence of the smart phone, 3G networks and a whole range of new apps mean that SMS is feeling the heat and could be eliminated within the next 3 to 5 years.

Free Apps Disrupting The Market

Blackberry have forced a huge sea change in the market and there are now multiple copycat apps for each platform including Kik and Whatsapp messenger. In the price conscious teen market these apps rule and a whole new generation will be used to messaging each other more or less for free.

Fragmentation The Only Issue

Although the new messaging apps are all brilliant and mostly free they exist on different platforms and there is some serious fragmentation happening.

Facebook Have A Great Chance

If one company has a chance of cracking this market then it is Facebook with their new messenger app purely because they have close to 800 million users.

Change Will Take 3 Years

The notion of paying for SMS will seem completely alien in about 3 years time but it is important to think about all the people who don t even have smart phones yet and a certain percentage of the population are more than happy with the SMS solution that they currently have. it will take one player to unify the whole experience. The are very strong economic reasons for a free app to succeed and it s very much a question of when and not if at this stage.

Indian companies doing business in Britain to fall under new Bribery Act
The Indian companies which have business relations with Britain, raise finance or have subsidiaries there, will soon find themselves prosecutable under the new British Bribery Act which came into effect on July 1 in place of the old Victorian law. "Large number of Indian firms will get affected by the new British Bribery Act. Promotional activities, including corporate hospitality will become increasingly sensitive issues.

A firm headquartered in India will find itself answerable to the British Serious Frauds Office (SFO) even if any of its arms in any other country had indulged in bribery or any corrupt practices, and if this resulted in loss of business to British companies or interests.

'Anna is India'
