The Committee of regions is a entity represented by all the European states.

It has a consultive power that gives voice to the regional and local enties. The main idea of this committee is to approach Europe to the civilization. They take decisions that affects day by day to all the regions in Europe. They meet all together 5 times a year.

This Committee was created in 1992 but it doesn't start functioning until two years later (1994). The president of the Committee is called Mercedes Bresso and the vice-president is called Ramon Luis Valcarcel and they are chose by the committee. Every two years the president is changed and the vice-president takes the presidency.

COUNCIL OF EUROPE

COUNCIL OF EUROPE
An international organisation which promotes the cooperation between european countries. It was founded on 5 may 1949, in Treaty of London. This treaty was signed by ten countries: France, UK, Italy, Ireland, Norway In 1989 because of the Fall of the Berlin Wall, new states came to the organisation: the former communist states and four countries of the former Jugoslavia. Nowadays there are 47 countries, all the countries of Europe fewer Belarus. Aims of the Council of Europe:
Promote the justice, the freedom, the democracy and the peace in Europe. Cultural and social labour. Work against the military investment. Guarantee the fundamental human rights.

Institutions inside the Council of Europe: Secretary General.


It is elected by the Parliamentary Assembly every five years. Nowadays Thorbjrn Jagland is the Secretary General.

Commitee of Ministers.
It has its own president. There are representatives of all the countries inside the organisation.

Parliamentary Assembly.
It has its own president who is elected for a year. There are parliamentarians from all member states.

Congress of the CE.


It was created in 1994. Its members are the representatives from local and regional authorities in the countries.

Commissioner for Human Rights.


Is elected by the Parliamentary Assembly for six years. Nowadays Thomas Hammarberg is the commissioner.

Conference of INGOs. Information Offices of the CE.

AGREEMENTS (more than 200): In favour of the cultural heritage, the human rights, children rights, minority cultures and languages, the protection of the environment with the Treaty of Viena to protect the flora and fauna Against the domestic violence, the drugs in sport

THE PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY The room is used since 1979 and it is designed by Henry Bernard. The assembly is celebrated four times in a year and each assembly lasts a week. There are 318 parliamentarians, they are representatives of the nations and they are elected in their country. The quantity of parliamentarians of each country depends on the quantity of habitants that it has. They are placed alphabetically. The representatives can speak in their own language because there are translators but only for english and french (official languages), german, italian and russian. The representatives that want to use other language they have to pay the translator. The observer countries are the countries that are in the assemblies but they are not members of the organisation. They can give their opinion but they dont have any power.
