"A physician once told me that nothing arouses so much bitter enmity and heated arguments among his colleagues, as the subject of cancer. This may be due to the guilty recollections of cancer victims expiring who might have been saved; or of the memories of patients pronounced hopelessly ill who recovered under the treatment of a 'quack,' or who miraculously lived without further treatment. Possibly these guilt reactions and the remorse over exhausting the money of patients and their relatives in futile cancer treatments, account for some of these psychological manifestations which are expressed in hostility and attack." What is Corrective Medicine?

CORRECTIVE MEDICINE & PSYCHIATRY involves the collaborative experience of listening with, educating and advising patients about how to correct imbalances in their four realms of life: their physical bodies, their vitality, their emotional life and their spiritual path. This encompasses education and counseling concerning the lifestyle NET (Nutrition, Exercise and Thought)

Corrective Laboratory Testing and Evaluation

It is easier to measure something precisely than it is to know precisely what you are measuring
The Weeks Clinic for Corrective Medicine and Psychiatry 2011

Goal of Corrective Laboratory Testing

1) Take the Inventory

(Measure endogenous elements to create a strategy of replenishment of detoxification)

2) Measure the Performance

(biochemical processes)

3) Measure the Results

(immune function, detoxification)

Precise testing for orthomolecular metabolism Example: Nagalase in serum is a sensitive test for monitoring the effect of the therapy in patients with cancer and certain viral infections, including HIV. Because of the short half-life of nagalase the method is suitable for monitoring various types of therapy. The great sensitivity of the test will help the physician / oncologist to obtain a better understanding of the therapy and to fine-tune the treatment.

Organix Profile - reveals the nutritional and metabolic basis of patient symptoms, including anxiety, mood changes, and immune responses. Amino Acid Profile - determines essential amino acid imbalances that affect both physical and mental function. Nutrient and Toxic Element Profiles - identifies a toxic burden, which can render considerable damage to the brain and nervous system as well as sufficiency of nutrient elements. Fatty Acid Profile - helps strike the right balance of fatty acids that can impact health and development. Antioxidant Vitamins - measures a total body status of antioxidant nutrients and nutritional deficiencies. Coenzyme Q10 - measures total body status of this antioxidant nutrient and energy pathway cofactor. Lipid Peroxides - measures total serum lipid peroxidation, an indication of whole body free radical activity. Homocysteine - identifies total homocysteine in plasma, and elevated levels are an independent risk factor for premature cardiovascular disease and atherothrombotic cerebrovascular disease

Oxygen breathing may be a cheaper and safer alternative to exogenous erythropoietin (EPO) Recently discovered normobaric oxygen paradox demonstrates that renal tissue can be stimulated to increase EPO production via a simple pattern of oxygen breathing at normal atmospheric pressures. This leads directly to the hypothesis that oxygen breathing may provide chemotherapy patients with a convenient and inexpensive alternative to ESAs. Stimulating endogenous EPO production eliminates the small risk of immune system reaction associated with ESAs. Further, the endogenous physiological EPO doses provided by this method may be safer, in terms of cancer mortality, than the exogenous pharmacological doses inherent in ESA administration. Author: R. Magnesium for Heart Health

Since Mg(2+)-ATP is the controlling factor for the rate-limiting enzyme in the cholesterol biosynthesis sequence that is targeted by the statin pharmaceutical drugs, comparison of the effects of Mg(2+) on lipoproteins with those of the statin drugs is warranted. Formation of cholesterol in blood, as well as of cholesterol required in hormone synthesis, and membrane maintenance, is achieved in a series of enzymatic reactions that convert HMG-CoA to cholesterol. The rate-limiting reaction of this pathway is the enzymatic conversion of HMG CoA to mevalonate via HMG CoA.

The statins and Mg inhibit that enzyme. ..These effects of statins derive less
from their lowering of LDL-C than from their reduction of mevalonate formation which improves endothelial function, inhibits proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells and macrophages, promotes plaque stabilization and regression, and reduces inflammation, Mg has effects that parallel those of statins. For example, the enzyme that deactivates HMG-CoA Reductase requires Mg, making Mg a Reductase controller rather than inhibitor. Mg is also necessary for the activity of lecithin cholesterol acyl transferase (LCAT), which lowers LDL-C and triglyceride levels and raises HDL-C levels. Mg at optimal cellular concentration is well accepted as

a natural calcium channel blocker. More recent work shows that Mg also acts as a statin.

Corrective Hormone Therapy: Oxytocin

Oxytocin (OT) is a hormone produced in many parts of the body. In the brain, it is produced and released on a daily rhythm with it's peak in the human brain occurring at around noon. OT is also produced in the posterior retina, in the pineal gland, thymus, pancreas, testicle, ovary, and adrenal glands. Oxytocin has also become the subject of studies in female sexual dysfunction specifically difficulty achieving orgasm. Oxytocin increases sexual receptivity and counteracts impotence. INCREASED RADIATION RESISTANCE OF MICE INJECTED WITH BEE VENOM ONE DAY PRIOR TO EXPOSURE
Shipman, William H. Cole, Leonard J. 2 March 1967
DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT SPONSORING MILITARY ACTIVITY Bureau of Medicine and Surgery Washington, D.C. 20390

Mice were injected with bee venom dissolved in a 0.90 NaCl solution. This injection was given either intraperitoneally or subcutaneously 24 hours before the mice were irradiated with X rays. It was found that, after exposure to a lethal dose of radiation (800 - 850 R) the venom-injected mice had a consistently higher number of survivals than the controls, and that the subcutaneously-injected mice had a higher number of survivals than the intraperitoneally-injected mice. The question as to whether this radioprotective effect of bee venom is due to its general stress-like effect, or to the action of a specific chemical component has been discussed.

One proposed mechanism for the effects of cancer treat- ment by selenium compounds is the direct action of pro- oxidant selenometabolites to generate ROS, resulting in cellular toxicity This ROS-generation mechanism involves the metabo- lism of selenite and selenate to generate hydrogen selenide (H2Se), a by-product of selenium metabolic pathway. High levels of selenide can then react with oxygen to produce ROS, resulting in oxidative damage to cells.

Sodium Selenite
Na2SeO3 is the compound of choice for both antioxidant and anticancer studies. MOA: selenocysteine containing enzymes such as GPx and thioredoxin reductases to prevent radical formation is a possible mechanism. The generation of hydrogen selenide from selenometabolites such as selenite to produce toxic ROS is also suggested as a possible mechanism for the pro-oxidant and anticancer properties of inorganic selenium compounds

A OK for Cancer
Anti-cancer agent (esp lung and epithelial cell source): Suppresses the growth of cervical carcinoma cells via a sustained activation of interferon regulatory factor 1 and activation caspase-1 Beta-carotene inhibited lung metastasis induced by B16F-10 melanoma cells in the C57BL/6 mice model by 71% compared to controls due in part to a reduction of pro-metastatic adents including hydroxyproline, hexoasmine, sialic acid and uronic acid. Prevents blindness in malnourished children Oral anti-viral agent (pneumonia, bronchitis) Prevents intravaginal transmission of HIV virus from infected mother to neonate better than any other know substance; Vitamin A deficiency reduces the number of osteoclasts resulting in excessive deposition of periosteal bone by the unchecked activity of osteoblasts. A OK for Infant Survival

A study (N=15,000 infants) demonstrating 34% fewer death in the vitamin A supplemented group. Author Dr. Sommer reports: Thats when all the knives and spears came out, he says, relishing the memory. Finally in 1985, after deigning to do a patently unethical double-blinded placebo controlled study where 15,000 children received vitamin A and 15,000 unfortunate other (doomed?) infants were given a placebo, his finding that the vitamin A group had experienced 30 percent fewer deaths than the placebo group was considered persuasive. Sommer recounts their ultimate reaction: Its a famous phenomenon, like the stages of grief, he says. First they ignored it. Then they got angry. Finally they say, We knew it all along. What they didnt know, however, until Kozakova et al published in April 2003, was the mechanism of action whereby vitamin A deficiency compromises mucosal barriers and leads to diarrhea. [18] These researchers observed that vitamin A deficiency led to a strong reduction of certain enterocyte enzymatic activities, which in turn precipitated a lethal dysbiosis with increased bacterial translocation and consequent diarrhea.

The Weeks Clinic for Corrective Medicine and Psychiatry 2011

The Standard of Care is sub-optimal. Survey result: Only 10% of conventional oncologists say they would take the medication they prescribe if they themselves had cancer. In contrast, 100% of IPT doctors would take their own medicine!
