Local Newspaper and Its Website

Top left shows the online newspaper Willesden and Brent Times. But when I click Eedition it takes me to Brent and Kilburn Times (top right). I will be analysing and comparing the similarities and differences within the newspaper it self and its online version.

Research
The Willesden & Brent Times is a weekly tabloid newspaper, distributed mostly as a freesheet to households in the London Borough of Brent in North West London, including the suburbs of Willesden, Dollis Hill, Neasden, Cricklewood, Brondesbury and Dudden Hill. Although its basically a freesheet, more than 20 per cent of copies are sold, either individually through the news trade or in bulk sales. Its published by North West London Newspapers, a branch of the Norwich-based Archant media groups newspaper publishing division, Archant Regional. The editorial offices are at their central facility in Swiss Cottage. It comes out on Thursdays. A newspaper is a scheduled publication containing news of current events, informative articles, diverse features and advertising. It usually is printed on relatively inexpensive, low-grade paper such as newsprint. By 2007, there were 6580 daily newspapers in the world selling 395 million copies a day. The worldwide recession of 2008, combined with the rapid growth of web-based alternatives, caused a serious decline in advertising and circulation, as many papers closed or sharply retrenched operations An online newspaper, also known as a web newspaper, is a newspaper that exists on the World Wide Web or Internet, either separately or as an online version of a printed periodical.

Here branded is the Willesden and Brent Times. The image shows a print screen of the internet logo which the black highly stands out against a primary colour (red).

People that are mostly like to read this newspaper are the local citizens that live within Willesden and Brent.
This is selected as the main story (splash) as the headline tends to drag in more readers. They use the most thrilling story to entice the public which will persuade them to buy the local newspaper. The side stories tend to be secondary as it may not be as intriguing as the headline. This reflects newspaper values.

When looking at this newspaper you will find that mostly colour has been used. This is used to catch the audiences eye and the pictures used tend to drag in more readers. As it is a local magazine readers will tend to look for there local citizens. The heading Mother,24, found dead in bathroom immediately attracts the local community as it may be someone the locals know. And they also include a picture to male their story more affective. Simple and understandable font is used which helps the readers understand it more and want to buy. Other factors are Pictures, headlines and straplines

For this story two images have been used to publicise the importance and relevance of the story. As the situation is very serious the media havent included puns and word play, the simple headline still manages to draw in readers. Both uses of pictures show the relevance of the story. It shows where the mother was found dead, and shows a picture of her. This publices a good story which what locals tend to look for.

Here shown on both sides are the similarities between the online newspaper website and its E-Edition. Here you can clearly identify that they share many similarities but overall they may not stand out as much.

E-Edition

Above shows the masthead in banner at the top of the page. Along with a date which is in comparison with its E-Edition.

This print screen comes from its EEdition but this shows the comparison each newspaper layout (website/EEdition) divide things into different categories. The difference is that only the online site will take you to another link.

This is a print screen of different categories which take you to a separate link which is also known as a Navigation link.
