FORCE
What is Force?
When we want a stationary body to move,
what causes it to move. On the other hand.
what action brings a moving body to a state
of rest?
This change in the original state of a body is
carried out by a known or some time
unknown external agent called Force
Force is that external agent which when
acting on a body may or may not change
its
(a) State of rest in the motion
(b) State of motion into rest
(c) Direction of motion. Force has both
magnitude as well as direction so it is a
vector quantity the C.G.S. unit of force is
Dyne and S.I. unit is Newton
Effects of Force
 Force can produce motion in a static body
When a played hits a football in rest it starts
moving. To lift a body lying at rest we apply
certain force

 Force can increase or decrease the speed

If a man is driving cycle and force is applied in
the direction of motion then the speed of cycle
will increase and if force is applied in the
direction opposite to the direction of motion then
the speed of cycle will decrease
 Force can change its direction of a moving body
When a bats man hits the ball. Thrown by a man ball
changes its direction by the force applied by batsman

 Force can deform shape of a body

By applying force on a rubber band it increase in
length and after releasing force it comes into its
original position
Types of Force
 Muscular Force
It is the force applied by muscular to pull or push
any body. As to press tooth paste tube, or to hit
a ball to drive cycle etc.
 Force of Friction
The force which opposes the motion
of body when it lies on inclined plane. It acts
between the two surfaces in contact. The value
of force of friction depends upon the nature of
the surfaces in contact. As a block and a ball
lying on the same inclined plane starts moving at
different time. A ball starts rolling very quickly
while a block takes more time to move.
Depending upon the surface area of block and
ball in contact
 Gravitational Force: - It is the force with which
every body of universe attracts each other. As
plants and earth moves around the sum. It is due
to the gravitational force that keeps the plants
moving around sun.

 Magnetic Force:- It is the force with which a

magnetic attracts the magnetic substance like
iron. A magnet can lift heavy pieces of iron in a
factory or workshop
 Electrostatic Force

If we rub plastic comb with our hair it starts

attracting small pieces of paper. The force by
which it attracts is called electrostatic force by
rubbing electricity is produced on comb known
as static electricity
