What is PhpMyLibrary?

PhpMyLibrary is a PHP MySQL Library automation application. The program consist of cataloging, circulation, and the webpac module. The programs also has an import export feature. The program strictly follow the USMARC standard for adding materials.

What is USMARC?
-- Stands for US Machine-Readable Cataloging.

MARCis an acronym, used in the field oflibrary science, that stands for MAchine-ReadableCataloging. TheMARC standardsconsist of the MARC formats, which are standards for the representation andcommunication of bibliographic and related information in machine-readable form, and related documentation.

PhpMyLibrarywas developed by Polerio T. Babao III as his academic undergraduate thesis in the Institute of Library and Information Science, University of the Philippines, Diliman. Though the initial release was made in 2001 as shown at Sourceforge.net, the final code was done in 2003 and eventually released as an open source library system following Koha, the first of the open source 4/21/12

Unfortunately the thesis wasn't successful. As of 2006, PhpMyLibraryhas been used worldwide by small libraries that handle 10,000 to 100,000 catalog records. ThePhpMyLibraryis now part of the three popular open source library systems worldwide: Koha, OpenBiblio, andPhpMyLibrary.

The application is popular in certain academic environments such as small university libraries. It is an Open source Software.

QC Public Libraries now online!

The Quezon City Public Library is now online. The move was made from the problems encountered on the installation of the PhpMyLibrary into their libraries. The libraries are experiencing windows virus problems and hardware 4/21/12 malfunctions with which the

To solve this problem, given that they have an individual internet connection we activated their online web sites so that the PhpMyLibrary software will not be anymore subjected to the said computer problems. The eleven (11) public schools libraries now have their own website powered by postnuke ( http://www.postnuke.com) content management system and phpmylibrary ( http://www.phpmylibrary.org) automation software.

The Quezon City libraries include the eleven (11) pilot elementary and high school libraries and the ten (10) QC Main Public Libraries. The installation of the other twenty eight (28) public elementary and high school libraries are currently on the process.

The PhpMyLibrary are currently targetting the third world countries which do not have enough fund to automate their library. The ideal goal of the PhpMyLibrary is to become the number one open source library automation suite for small to large-scale information and library centers world wide.
