What is Management ???


Management is a distinct process consisting of planning, organising, staffing, directing, controlling performed to determine and accomplish stated objectives by the use of human beings and other resources. In simple words. Management is the art of getting things done through people.

There are different process of management. The 5 Main Process are..

As management is for the accomplishment of specific objectives, thus material resources have to be properly combined with human efforts. This is called Management process.

Planning

Planning is the Primary Function Of Management. Planning is deciding in advance What to do

When to do
How to do Who is to Do it How much to Spend.

Advantages of Planning are:


uniform decision, performance standard, ensures stability, reduces wastage, ensures survival & progress.

Planning

involves choosing from among alternatives the proper course of action. It is based on objectives, facts & forecasts. E.g. Setting Of target or Goal of Organization

Organising

Organizing
Organizing is next to planning. In an enterprise, many managers and employees work together for achieving common objectives. It is the organization structure which binds them together and brings proper adjustments and co-ordination in their work In simple words organizing means arranging the ways and means for the execution of business plan.

Advantages of Organising are: Facilitates division of work, facilitates administration, facilitates growth & expansion, stimulates creativity, makes optimum use of resources, facilitates coordination etc

E.g. creation of various departments

Staffing

Staffing
Staffing is the process of filling position/post in the organization with adequate and qualified personnel. Right man for the right job is the basic principle of Staffing.

Staffing function is comprehensive and involves manpower planning, recruitment, selection, training, compensation, integration and maintenance of employees.
E.g. The number of people working in every department.

Directing

Directing
DIRECTING is said to be a process in which the managers instruct, guide and oversee the performance of the workers to achieve predetermined goals.

Directing is said to be the heart of management.


Directing not only deals with instructing people to do the work in right manner but making them understand what is expected from them.

Direction, based on regular reviews, makes administration friendly and result-oriented.

Due to it there is Unity of command, Unity of Direction, Harmony of objectives, Effective Communication, Personal contact.

E.g. A production Manager directing job regarding sales.

Controlling

Controlling
In simple words controlling means checking or verifying whether the actual performance is as per set standards. Controlling is objective oriented, facilitates coordination, avoids wastage, avoids deviation, removes weak points, raises employee morale etc. E.g. A advertising manager focusing on hard core advertising because unawareness of product in market.

Conclusion..

Thus Management is the continuous process which brings about growth and prosperity to the organisation.
