Air Spring
Air springs are used to isolate vibrations and

provide ride comfort to the passenger.

Air springs, which consist of a cylindrical

chamber of air positioned between the wheel and the car's body.
Work as Secondary suspension system,

use the compressive qualities of air to absorb vibrations. 4/28/12

Comparison With Coil Spring

Low static deflection under high load. More energy carrying capacity per unit

weight.
Air

springs have lower resonance frequencies as well length as compared to the steel springs.

Modeling of Air Spring

Model is to determine the mechanical

properties of the spring.

Frequency range from vehicle perspective is

dealt here it lies between 0 20 Hz.

The behavior of air spring is mainly based on

fluid dynamic mechanisms.

What's Next ??????

The next step is to develop a mathematical

model and verify it using MATLAB Simulink Module.

4/28/12

Why Simulink?????

Simulink is an environment for multi

domain simulation and Model-Based Design for dynamic systems.

Expected Output

Simulation results for the above air spring model will be compared against the Experimental Results ,and deviations will be plotted.
