Introduction

Tropical Cyclone Nargis caused

extensive damage in Myanmar
Up to 23/05/08, there are about
78,000 death and 56,000 missing.

Why is the death toll so great?

We will discuss this in the project

What is a tropical cyclone?

• a storm system
characterized by a low
pressure center and
numerous thunderstorms
that produce strong
winds and flooding rain.

structure of tropical cyclone

Political aspect

the government rejected the foreign

aid
∵ it did not want to show its
weakness
many people are urgently needed

Why the consequence is so
serious?

We can divide the reason into two

main groups
Human Factors
Natural Factors
Human Factors

Prevention towards the

outbreak of Tropical
Cyclone Nargis was
insufficient
Lack of professionals
and rescue teams
The ignorance of the
government
Poor organization of
relief work
Lack of medicines and funding
The deforestation of Mangroves
– Mangroves acts as a protective
screen of disasters
– Tourism & fishing industry are
developing
– Mangroves are cut to build tourist
spot
Natural Factors

• serious flooding
 contaminated water
• Unstable Weather
 hindered the relief work
• Infrastructure and housing were
destroyed
 blocked the road
What can we do ?
Burma military government

1.Build shelters for the victims

2.Rebuild infrastructures after all
rescue works have been done e.g.
bridges
Developed countries

Provide technology and funding for reconstruction

work

Hold several negotiations with Burma

– aiming at solving its serious corruption problems
Charity organizations
1. prevention of diseases
2.Provide goods and materials for victims
Citizens

Donation

Being a disaster volunteer

Supporting through Prayers

Conclusion
Nargis brought a lot of horrible
effects to Burma
we should not ignore
we should actively help these
victims.
We should unify in overcoming
the tough time and hardship.
If we do not, one day we will
deserve.
