Stress

is the body's reaction to a change that requires a physical, mental or emotional adjustment or response. Stress can come from any situation or thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry, nervous, or anxious. Stress is caused by an existing stresscausing factor or "stressor." Also Known As: distress

STRESS!!!

Both negative and positive stressors can lead to stress. The intensity and duration of stress changes depending on the circumstances and emotional condition of the person suffering from it (Arnold. E and Boggs. K. 2007). Stress is define as a stimulus event that presents unusual demands. ( Holmes & Rahe , 1967 )

Stress ( psychology ), an unpleasant state of emotional and psychological arousal that people experience in situations that they perceive as dangerous or threatening to their well-being. (Auerbach et al, 2007 / Encarta 2008)
In some instances this work has attempted to differentiate state from trait anxiety. Several investigations have supported the notion that individuals high on state anxiety measures tend to show such preferential processing (slower response rates to Stroop tasks; Mathews & MacLeod, 1985

high levels of stress can lead to emotional exhaustion, lower organizational commitment, and increased turnover intentions (Cropanzano, Rapp, and Bryne, 2003)

Some of the most significant stressors associated with both types of deployments are uncertainty, long work hours, risk of death or disease, boredom, and separation from family (Halverson et al., 1995; Campbell et al., 1998)

Stokes and Kite (2001) suggested that physiological measures have failed to provide a complete understanding of the human stress response and do not necessarily equate to psychological stress, and thus a third approach to understanding the human stress response has emerged Hancock and colleagues (1985) suggest that there are two useful dimensions in considering measurements of mental workload. The first refers to the workloads practicalityhow practical is the measure under working conditions. The second dimension concerns spatial and systemic congruence.

Fox (1993) found that under some circumstances state-anxious individuals actually shift their attention away from threat stimuli. While this is counter to previous findings, Fox believed this was an attempt to use a repressive coping strategy.
Previous investigations into memory performance have found negative effects across a variety of putative stressors including: fatigue (Davies & Parasuraman, 1982; Eysenck, 1985; Gevins & Smith,1999; Kleitman, 1963)

The stress response also helps you rise to meet challenges. Stress is what keeps you on your toes during a presentation at work, sharpens your concentration when youre attempting the game-winning free throw, or drives you to study for an exam when you'd rather be watching TV beyond a certain point, stress stops being helpful and starts causing major damage to your health, your mood, your productivity, your relationships, and your quality of life
