Productive packaging has a great impact on the cost and productivity of a logistical system.

Some firms manage packing with a systematic approach. Packaging affects the cost of every logistics activity. Transport and storage costs are directly related to the size and density of packages.

Packing: It is a process of covering, wrapping or crating of goods before they are transported or stored. Package: It is the actual container or wrapper in which the product is enclosed or sealed. Packaging: It is the general group of activities which concentrate in formulating the design of a package and producing an appropriate and attractive container or wrapper for the product which will protect the attributes of the product till it is used by the user.

Packaging is an art of designing and producing the package for a product with the objective to create demand, provide protection and convenience during handling.

Packing is also becoming an important consideration in the light of growing environmental responsibility.
