US Naval Medical Research Unit No. 2
The United States Naval Medical Research Unit No. 2 (US Namru-2) wishes to acknowledge the
outstanding services of World Courier in providing critical logistics support, in conjunction
with the epidemic SARS crisis in Indonesia. World Courier took responsibility for
coordinating and managing the sensitive shipment of infectious materials from “suspected”
SARS patients from Indonesia for advanced laboratory evaluation at the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC&P), Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Insuring the proper import and export documentation,
particularly during heightened customs scrutiny of all shipments entering the U.S. post 9/11 attacks, World
Courier handled 5 shipments. World Courier assisted NAMRU-2 and Ministry of Health staff with advice and
instructions, taking
advantage of their own packaging innovations in handling
infectious materials, such that safe transport of potentially hazardous infectious agents across
national borders was assured. Moreover, packaging suitability insured no degradation of specimen viability,
so that all arrived in a condition that allowed for sophisticated laboratory analysis. The sensitivity and
responsiveness of World Courier in filling this urgent demand cannot be overstated: a niche
conventional, long placed logistical shipper could not fill. NAMRU-2 wishes to extend its appreciation to World
Courier, in contributing to the concerted and successful efforts in addressing the SARS epidemic in
Indonesia.
