PROCEDURE FOR APPROVAL


The design of every cranes requires approval before they can be registered for use in Malaysia All design approval applications are to be submitted to the headquarters of DOSH The application for approval must be made by the manufacturer or owners of the machinery Following relevant information need to be submitted -Name & address of owner -Name & address of manufacturer -Three (3) copies of design drawing -Three (3) copies of design calculation for girder

-Three (3) copies of the list of safety features fitted to the crane - Hoist specification - Wire rope / chain specification

OTC- THEORY
Definition Of Crane (General)
Crane- a machine for lifting and lowering a load and moving it horizontally. Crane either fixed or mobile, are driven manually, by power, or by a combination Crane-cyclic action machine intended for hoisting and moving in space of a load suspended by means of a hook or other load-handling devices.

SCOPE OF APPLICATION
Applies to construction, installation, operation, inspection and maintenance of OTC, include single & double girder girder, monorail hoist, portal crane, semi portal crane, jib crane etc. This include both power driven and hand-operated equipment.

MAJOR COMPONENT OF CRANE


Span- the horizontal distance between centers of the tracks that support the crane Wheel Base- the distance between the centers of the wheels on the same track Bridge- the structural member(s) on which the crab is supported Crab (or trolley)-an assembly incorporating one or more lifting units that traverses the bridge of the crane Cross Traverse-the motion of the crab(s) along the bridge Long Travel- motion of the whole crane along the track Hoisting-the motion of lifting or lowering of the load in a vertical direction Bumper(Buffer)- a device for reducing impact when a moving crane trolley reaches the permitted travel, or when two moving cranes or trolleys come into contact. This devices may be attached to the bridge , trolleys, or runaway stop

DESIGN DRAWING
Design drawing should preferably be on A1 size which include : -detail assembly drawing including the detail dimension -detail of the girder, cross-section of girder, detail of stiffener -detail of end carriage(plan view, front view& crosssection of end carriage) -detail specification for material, size & quantity -technical specification e.g. type of crane, span length, save working load, lifting height, lifting speed and etc.

TYPES OF OTC
Single Girder/Double Girder -Crane with its bridge girders directly supported on rail tracks by travelling carriage Portal Crane -Crane with the bridge girders supported on the rail tracks by legs Semi-Portal Crane -Crane with its bridge girders supported on the elevated rail track directly at one end by leg(s) at the other hand Jib Crane -Crane with a load-handling device suspended either from a jib or from a crab traveling along the jib Monorail Hoist -Hoisting machine attached to universal beam (Std. I Beam). Travel movement from right to left or left to right.

EXEMPTION FROM DESIGN APPROVAL


Overhead Travelling Crane (including monorail, portal crane & jib crane) which girder made from standard I or H-Beam & safe working load (S.W.L) not exceeding 5000kg (5 Ton) is exempted from design approval

BUT
All the installation of OTC below 5 ton must be registered with DOSH State.

TESTING
After design already approved the DOSH state will carried-out the testing which called Over Load Test.
Overload test=1.25 X S.W.L Deflection(test)= less then max.deflection(D) (1/750 or 1/900)
