Objective: practice listening and speaking conditional sentences using media cassette

Simon Brown has just inherited $10,000 from his grand father and is talking about what to do with it . Look at these pictures . What would you do with the money ?

1-Father: Simon ,do you have time for a little chat ? 1-Simon : Sure Dad. 2-Father: What you were going to do with the money your grandfather left you? 3-Simon: I had thought about leaving it in the bank for a while. 3-Father: Well, unless you invest it properly , you won't earn much interest. 4-Simon: Yes, but if I invest it I won't be able to access the money quickly when I've decided what to do with it, will I? 5-Father : Well What sort of thing would you like to do ? 5-Simon: Well At first I thought about taking a trip around the world , but if I went travelling , I'd lose a year of study 6-Father : very true 7-Simon : The other thing I wanted to do was buy a car . 8-Father: If you own a car , you also have to pay for insurance and road tax every year and then there's a petrol . 9-Simon : Yes, Dad , and it would be great if I could drive to work instead of travelling on the bus. 10-Father :I still think you should think about investing some of your money for the future . 10-Simon: But I'm scared that , if I invest it , I might lose it all when the stock market goes down 11-Father: You won't lose any money provided that you think of it as a long-term investment. 12Now , I know you want to buy a car but As long as you get a second hand one, you should still be able to invest some of the money as well. Thats what I do if I were you .

In cooperation with your group, look at the following picture and try to guess the Arabic meaning of the word (IF).

A conditional sentences talk about a condition ( usually introduced by if ) and a possible result . The if clause can be before or after the result clause. We use a comma between clauses when the if-clause comes first. Either clause can be positive or negative.

imagine Sentences on this form are used to.. things that could take place in the present or the future . . (Untrue in the past )
Second conditional sentences :we use ( 2nd conditional to talk about imaginary , impossible , or unlikely situations in the present or the future . The past tense doesnt refer to the past time.
