Subject : Analog communication
Subject code : EC-305
Topic : Transmitters & Receivers
Duration : 50 min.
Sub- Topic : Transmitters-High Level
Teaching aids : PPTs,Diagrams

EC-305.39 1
Objectives :
Upon completion of this topic you will be able to

• know what is high level modulation.

• Draw the Block diagram of high level modulated transmitter.

• know the Working of high level modulated transmitters.

EC-305.39 2
High level modulated transmitter:

• In this system ,the carrier is generated and amplified to

the final level needed and then the information signal

modulates the carrier at high power level.

EC-305.39 3
Block diagram of high level modulated transmitter:

EC-305.39 4
Stages in the transmitter :

• Master oscillater.
• Buffer amplifier.
• Harmonic generator.
• Class-C amplifier.
• Modulated amplifier.
• Modulating amplifier.
• Transmittig Antenna.

EC-305.39 5
Master oscillator:

• The fundamental frequency for the carrier is generated

by this oscillator.

• Usually the master oscillator is a crystal oscillator.

• The frequency of the master oscillator must be stable for

over a very long time.

EC-305.39 6
Buffer amplifier:

• The frequency of the master oscillator will be coupled to

the next stage of harmonic generator through the buffer
amplifier.

• This buffer amplifier prevents the loading of the harmonic

generator.

• The buffer amplifier isolates the master oscillator from

Harmonic Generator.

EC-305.39 7
Harmonic generator:

• Usually master oscillator of a transmitter generates its

frequency as a sub-multiple of the final carrier frequency.

• In order to multiply the frequency the frequency

multipliers are used.

• The input to the harmonic generator is the out put of the

buffer amplifier

• Two or more stages can be employed to get the final

carrier frequency.

EC-305.39 8
Class-C amplifier:

• The output produced by the master oscillator is of small

amplitude.

• It amplifies the RF voltage to the required power level.

EC-305.39 9
Modulated amplifier:

• This is a class-C tuned amplifier of the puss-pull type.

• This will be supplied with the carrier as well as the

modulating signal such that the output of this amplifier is
the amplitude modulated signal.

EC-305.39 10
Modulating amplifier:

• Class-B push-pull amplifier is used as modulating

amplifier.

• This amplifier amplifies the modulating signal.

• The output of the modulating amplifier is the input to the

modulated amplifier.

EC-305.39 11
Antenna:

• The modulated signal is fed to a transmitting antenna for

effective radiation.

EC-305.39 12
