Order entry system: captures the basic data needed to process a customer order Sales configuration system: ensures that the products and services ordered are sufficient to accomplish the customers objectives and will work well together Shipment planning system: determines which open orders will be filled and from which location they will be shipped

An order entry system is a set of procedures to input the who, what, where, when and how of a customer order into the database. It is an input operation. Entering the data accurately at minimum cost is the main objective.

Order entry systems design is to use on-line terminals at which sales department personnel enter order data by filling in blanks in a formatted display screen. Hence can be detected at the time of data entry. The ideal system beyond this type of entry system is to simply receive a machine readable purchase order from the customer.

The

purpose of setting up of an order entry system is to help you process and keep the track of your customer orders. A good system simplify the buying process of your customers based on an analysis of their buying habits and practices as they deal with of your businesses. More specifically, it must recognize areas in the ordering process that hinders the buying decisions and then offers the solutions to remove these obstacles permanently.
