 Automatic Object Location (AOL) is an advanced method used to track and monitor any remote object equipped with a software unit that receives and transfers signals through GPS satellite.  AOL is a combination of Global Positioning System (GPS) and

Geographic Information System (GIS) that provides actual geographic real time position of each Object.  The entire transmission mechanism of AOL setup depends on

GPS satellite, a receiver on an object and a GSM combination will work for our project.  GPS receiver continuously tracks the information of geographical

earth and that data will be sent to a mobile number from which number we will receive the message. That means it will give the information of longitude and latitude values.

 The AT89C52 is a low-power, high-performance CMOS 8-bit microcomputer with 8Kbytes of Flash programmable and erasable read only memory (PEROM).

 The on-chip Flash allows the program memory to be reprogrammed insystem or by a conventional nonvolatile memory programmer.

 By combining a versatile 8-bit CPU with Flash on a monolithic chip, the Atmel AT89C52 is a powerful microcomputer, which provides a highly flexible and cost-effective solution to many embedded control applications.

MAX 232:
The MAX232 is a dual driver/receiver that includes a capacitive voltage generator to supply TIA/EIA-232-F voltage levels from a single 5-V supply. Each receiver converts TIA/EIA-232-F inputs to 5-V TTL/CMOS levels. These receivers have a typical threshold of 1.3 V, a typical hysteresis of 0.5 V, and can accept 30-V inputs. Each driver converts TTL/CMOS input levels into TIA/EIA-232-F levels.

 The MAX232 has two receivers (converts from RS-232 to TTL voltage levels) and two drivers (converts from TTL logic to RS-232 voltage levels). This means only two of the RS-232 signals can be converted in each direction.

 Typically a pair of a driver/receiver of the MAX232 is used for  TX and RX And the second one for  CTS and RTS.

 GM-318 is a low-power, ultra-high performance, easy to use GPS smart antenna module based on SiRFs third generation single chip. Its low power consumption and high performance enables the adoption of handheld applications.  The 5-pin I/O interface is then connected to the main board with either connector or wire soldering. The integrated antenna design helps reduce the RF and EMI issues to minimum.  Fast adoption and high yield production becomes possible. The power control feature is very convenient to turn on/off power via GPIO control pin.

GSM MODULE:  Global System for Mobile communications is the most popular standard for mobile phones in the world. Its promoter, the GSM Association, estimates that 82% of the global mobile market uses the standard.  GSM is an open, digital cellular technology used for transmitting mobile voice and data services. GSM differs from first generation wireless systems in that it uses digital technology and time division multiple access transmission methods.  GSM supports data transfer speeds of up to 9.6 kbps, allowing the transmission of basic data services such as SMS.  Another major benefit is its international roaming capability, allowing users to access the same services when traveling abroad as at home.

AT Commands According To GSM:

The GSM 07.05 commands are for performing SMS and CBS related operations.SIM300II supports both text and PDU modes.

 A liquid crystal display (LCD) is an electronically-modulated optical device shaped into a thin, flat panel made up of any number of color or filled monochrome pixels with liquid crystals and arrayed in front of a light source or reflector. In this project l LCD is used to display the GSM status.  We can connect LCD in 8 bit mode or 4 bit mode, if use 8 bit mode more pins necessary to interface LCD, so we can use 4 bit mode to reduce pins .In this project we used 4 bit mode and it is connected to P0.  When LCD is powered up the display should show a series of dark squares, possibly only on part of display.  The display module resets itself to an initial state when power is applied, which curiously the display has blanked off so that even if characters are entered, they cannot be seen.

The LCD plays a major role in the entire operation as it has the ability to display the certain data that the user has entitled. LCD display varies from input to input as there is no specific outline for it to operate.

Opto-Isolator :

In electronics, an opto-isolator, also called an optocoupler, photocoupler, or

optical isolator, is "an electronic device designed to transfer electrical signals by utilizing light waves to provide coupling with electrical isolation between its input and output.  The main purpose of an opto-isolator is to prevent high voltages or rapidly

changing voltages on one side of the circuit from damaging components or distorting transmissions on the other side.  Commercially available opto-isolators withstand input-to-output voltages up to

10 kV and voltage transients with speeds up to 10 kV/ s.

In this application we are using GSM module to receive and Send the messages from anywhere. Whenever we send the command to GSM module then it can do particular operation depending upon the command. In this application when ever an object is started we receive the message from GSM. If an object is lost we send a command #GPS to receive the Longitude and Latitude positions of an object. Testing &Verification:
 The Live Detection and tracking using GSM and GPS is tested for three cases.  Registering the mobile number.  Tracking the object.  Send message to mobile.  Whenever we are calling to GSM modem we receive an SMS from GSM modem that an object is laying on a particular location.  We receive a message that indicates the location in terms of latitude and longitude.

The GPS device getting the longitudinal and latitudinal value of an object place. The GPS receiver receives the Longitudinal and latitudinal value. This setup acts as Master and connected to slave system GSM modem via RS 232 cable. The Master detects position & place and sends a signal to slave via data port. Once slave receives the signal it will send a SMS to the number which is already stored on that. The receivers will receive a SMS from GSM modem.


This project is extended for tracing whether a human is alive or dead in a hazardous zone or mines over a particular area. A temperature sensor is fitted with the human body as a tag. The sensor will sense the body temperature and feed it to the Comparator circuit. The circuit will compare the temperature with reference value, and if it finds the temperature to be abnormal it triggers to GSM module and transmits signal which defines the human is alive. The robot if picks this signals it stops there and triggers the alarm.
