COMMUNICATION & DECISION MAKING

is the activity of conveying meaningful information. Communication is a two-way process that involves getting your message across and understanding what others have to say. Communication involves active listening, speaking and observing.

describes the process of conveying meaning in the form of non-word messages. Research shows that the majority of our communication is non verbal, also known as body language.

chronemics, haptics, proxemics, gesture, body language or posture; facial expression and eye contact,

primarily referring to spoken verbal communication,

discussion, speeches, presentations, interpersonal communication and many other varieties.

Components of communication process

-Communication is affected by the context in which it takes place. This context may be physical, social, chronological or cultural. Every communication proceeds with context. The sender chooses the message to communicate within a context.

-is a person who sends the message. A sender makes use of symbols (words or graphic or visual aids) to convey the message and produce the required response.

-is a key idea that the sender wants to communicate. It is a sign that elicits the response of recipient. Communication process begins with deciding about the message to be conveyed.

-is a means used to exchange / transmit the message. The sender must choose an appropriate medium for transmitting the message else the message might not be conveyed to the desired recipients.

-is a person for whom the message is intended / aimed / targeted.

-is the main component of communication process as it permits the sender to analyze the efficacy of the message.

fatigue, poor listening skills, attitude toward the sender or the information, lack of interest in the message, fear, mistrust, past experiences, negative attitude, problems at home, lack of common experiences, emotions.

the audience, and environment

DECISION MAKING

-can be regarded as the mental processes (cognitive process) resulting in the selection of a course of action among several alternative scenarios.

Decision-Making Stages

-This phase is where members meet for the first time and start to get to know each other.

-Once group members become familiar with each other, disputes, little fights and arguments occur. Group members eventually work it out.

-The group begins to clear up vague opinions by talking about them.

-Members finally make a decision, while justifying themselves that it was the right decision.
