Why we are here

Welcome and Goals of Meeting


GOALS:
At the end of our time, you will be able to: 1. Name the most critical Reading & Math skills your child needs to master 2. Explain your childs current progress on these skills 3. Set a goal for your child to work toward during the next 60 days 4. Practice the activities that will help your child meet that goal

Essential Reading Skill : Sight Words


Mastering sight words builds automaticity so that the brain is able to focus on making sense of whats being read, instead of trying to identify words they should already know.
Sight words:

Show up in our reading about 75% of the time Give children a sense of confidence Make reading easy for children because they increase fluency and allow students to focus on understanding what theyve read

**If your child is in the group 1-4 they should know 100 sight words by the end of the year. **If your student is in the group from 5-8 they should know 300 sight by the end of the year. words

Setting Our 60 day Goal


1.By March 30th, students in group 1-4 will be able to correctly identify 50 words in a snap. 2.By March 30th, students in group 5-8 will be able to correctly identify 300 words in a snap. Take a look at your childs current progress, now decide on a reasonable goal for your child. You can use our class goal or you can pick a different goal that seems right for your child. For example, if my child already knows 250 words, I may set a goal of 300 words by November 30.

Essential Math Skill (Students 1-2) : Basic Addition and Subtraction


Addition is an operation that we use on an every day basis. Students must be able to add or subtract fluently in order to solve money, time and two-digit addition problems

Addition and subtraction are operations that we use on an every day basis. Students must be able to add or subtract fluently in order to solve money, time and two-digit addition problems. As problems get harder and more complex, students need to be able to fall back on strong fast fact knowledge Pre-assessment: Class Average: 2 correct in 2 minutes Class Goal: To correctly complete 20 right facts in 3 minutes.

Setting Our 60 Day Goal


Suggested Math Goal : By March 30th, students in group 1-2 will demonstrate addition and subtraction fact fluency within 10 with 90% accuracy. By March 30th, student in Group 3-8 will correctly Answer 20 fast facts in 3 minutes. Look at your childs current progress and decide on a reasonable goal for your child. Use our class goal or you can pick one that seems right for your child.

So What? Now What?


So what skills should my child focus on in the next 60 days? How will I know that my child has mastered those skills? Now what? We will come back together in the next 60 days to review our progress, learn more ways you can support your child, and set a new goal.
