y According to world health organisation Health is a state of complete physical ,mental, &social well-being & not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. y There are different aspects of health physical health, mental health, social health& spiritual health. y Physical health is the base upon which the personality stands. y Good health depends on the state of the mind and the body. y Social health is expressed in good conduct. y Spiritual health is something that transcends physiology &psychology.

HEALTH EDUCATION
y Health education is that part of health. y Health education is an art of living. y Health education in schools and colleges may be defined as a systematic programme for developing the habits attitude and knowledge that will contribute to physical, mental and emotional health. y Dr.Thomas wood says, Health education is the sum of experiences, which favorably influence habits, attitudes and knowledge, relating to individual,community,and social health. y Prof.Grout says, health education is the translation of what is known a bout health into desirable individual and community behavior pattern by means of educational process.

AIMS OF HEALTH EDUCATION


y 1)Health education may be required for almost every one at some time or the other. y 2)Health education is not a one time affair. it is a continuing education. y 3)Health education can be organised as a self learning process. y 4)Health education can be a process of learning from others. y 5)Health education consists of proper communication of ideas. y 6)Any one who knows what is good for preservation of health can impart health education.

OBJECTIVES OF HEALTH EDUCATION


y 1)To enable the students to develop a scientific point of view of y y y y y

health with reference to traditional and modern concept of health. 2)To enable students to identity health problems and understand their own role of health and medical agencies in meeting those problems. 3)To enable the students to take interest in current events related to health. 4)To enable the students to set an example of desirable health behaviour. 5)To enable the students to gain sufficient knowledge of firstaid. 6)To emphasise on students the bad effects of smoking and taking alcohol etc.

PRINCIPLES OF HEALTH EDUCATION

ensure a desired health behaviour. 2)Health education should not become an artificial situation or formal learning. 3)Education is the process or act employed to develop the mind , characters and body by planned discipline. 4)The health educator has to make himself acceptable. 5)A health education has to employ all possible methods or education. 6)Unplanned health education is a wasteful effort. 7)Health education can be for individual group or community. 8)Health education has for its ultimate goal to bring a bout the desired health related behaviour and practices.

SCOPE OF HEALTH EDUCATION

prepared. 2)The need for fresh air,water,ventilation,light physical exercise recreation, rest and sleep etc. 3)The habit of cleanliness with regard to body ,bodily organs, dress and dwelling place. 4)knowledge of the structure of the various organs of the body. 5)knowledge of the functioning of various system of the body.

programme throughout the school life. y Instruction must be based on the student s interests, needs abilities and social background.. y Elementary knowledge of physiology and anatomy ,including the study of those influences which are injurious to physical health of the individual as well as his Physiological system. to maintain and improve health. y A good health services programme should provide educational experience for students leading them to adopt desirable health habits PROGRAMMES OF HEALTH SERVICES A)Periodical medical examination of the students. B)Maintenance of medical examination records and reports of the students reflecting health status and its history. C) Dispatching reports to the parents about physical health of the students. D)Clinical treatment students who suffer from some disease. E)Care of personal physical health of the students like care of eras, eyes, nose ,chest ,feet ,posture etc. F)To record and maintain the history and defects regarding special cases. G)Emergency service first-aid service. H)Health services for the staff.

HEALTH SUPERVISION
y The aim of health supervision is to provide healthful

school living. y It is related to the entire physical, social, and emotional environment which surrounds the pupil. y If not only involves safe sanitary physical facilities but also includes careful planning of the school day for study ,play &rest. y Health supervision programme can be carried on effectively beginning with the construction of the building of the of the institution and its maintenance in accordance with civic laws.
