community activities social welfare programs Children are the future of our society and the SAMSUNG Welfare Foundation, along with SAMSUNG's affiliates, is actively involved in the upbringing of children and in helping people in need become self-sufficient. We do all we can to enhance the quality of life for our neighbors. SAMSUNG Welfare Foundation and SAMSUNG affiliates endeavor to enhance the quality of life for all its neighbors, particularly children, young adults and low-income families, by funding community programs that address economic, social and cultural needs. These programs are aimed at promoting self-sufficiency, rather than simply donating cash. Since 1999, for five consecutive years, SAMSUNG has donated 10 million dollars each year to help and care for the needy people in our society. Especially, SAMSUNG donated 20 million dollars in 2004. Also SAMSUNG Life Insurance donated 10 million dollars to fight against cancer, cerebral apoplexy and myocardial infarction for three years(2002~2004). SAMSUNG's cultural and arts programs provide diverse support for the preservation and exhibition of Korean and other ethnic heritages. SAMSUNG's interest in culture and the arts dates back to the 1960's. Since its establishment in 1965, the SAMSUNG Foundation of Culture has worked to uncover, preserve and broaden the awareness of Korea's rich cultural heritage. Over the years, SAMSUNG has contributed extensively to numerous museums, galleries and exhibits in Korea and around the world. SAMSUNG also hosts and supports various cultural events tailored to suit children and provide early artistic development, such as the annual Bichumi Painting Festival, the Glass Modeling Academy, and the Kenox Photo gallery. At the core of SAMSUNG's management philosophy is "Priority in human resources." We have a particular interest in fostering quality people and practice good corporate citizenship by contributing to programs that improve the quality of education from kindergarten through high-school, with particular emphasis on children from low-income families. employee volunteer programs

The SAMSUNG Community Service Team was founded in 1994 as a Korean corporation designed to facilitate employees' participation in volunteer service. SAMSUNG has set up more than 300 central offices for SAMSUNG community relations worldwide. SAMSUNG strongly encourages and supports employees to actively volunteer in a wide spectrum of social improvement projects from environmental clean-ups and disaster relief to providing housekeeping assistance for the elderly and mentoring orphans and young parents. More than 61% of all SAMSUNG employees worldwide donate their time and talent for worthy causes, and approximately 70,500 employees representing 1,902 service teams are currently involved in volunteer programs. These programs are carefully selected to match employees job skills with social needs. The Washington D.C. based Points of Light Foundation (POLF) has recognized these cumulative volunteer efforts by selecting SAMSUNG among all international corporations for its prestigious 1998 Award for Excellence in Corporate Community Service. In awarding SAMSUNG this honor, POLF noted SAMSUNG's achievements in establishing and maintaining effective systems to support employee volunteer activities, leveraging technological and human resources. Family volunteering is another area in which SAMSUNG works hard for its employees, creating opportunities for quality family time and positive role models to help children and their families feel connected both to our company and our communities.
