Even though we do not like to begin with a sad note on a feast day, we need to experience the agony and passion of the Son and Mother in order to fully enter into Standing close to the Cross so, the spirit of this feast. And of Jesus was video. through thishis mother (Jn 19/25)
Most people have wondered: how come we, Holy Cross, celebrate our patronal feast on themes of sorrow, suffering and death?

Many people have asked: how come we, Holy Cross, celebrate our Patronal Feast on Sept 15, the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows?

Because every sword that pierced the heart of Mary has also pierced the heart of our founder

Our Blessed founder, Basil Moreau, accepted this mystery of the cross as part of his mission

Just as our Blessed Mother in her total fidelity to her Son gave us a supreme example of fidelity,

Moreau taught his followers to accept their daily crosses joyfully for the sake of the mission.

Thus in Moreau the Bloody Cross of the Son and the bleeding heart of the mother were united.

Moreau took upon himself the broken body of the Son and the broken heart of the Mother.

Moreau, beyond his stern, stringent, unflinching face had a soft, suffering heart.

He founded four Congregations :Three for women and one for men (Brothers & Priests)

And so we are delighted to share with you our charism and celebrate with you the gift of our founder , Blessed Basil Moreau.

Opening Prayer:
Gracious God, as your son was raised on the cross, his mother Mary stood by him, sharing his sufferings. As you graced your servant Basil Moreau to found an apostolic religious community of the Congregation of Holy Cross for your glory and the salvation of your people, you gave him the example and the experience of Mary at the foot of the cross.

Opening Prayer: As we remember his commitment to you and his long years of suffering and struggle in giving life and direction to the Congregation, we, his spiritual sons come to celebrate him and echo with Mary, our Mother our song of thanksgiving. Trusting, like Mary and Moreau, in your providence which never abandons us despite the many swords that pierce our hearts we reaffirm today our commitment and availability for your mission. We make this .

1) Living the example of Jesus Christ, fidelity to our commitment as religious, will lead to the cross. Basil Moreau writes: "Jesus himself told us that following him is reduced to three things: renouncing ourselves, taking up our cross, and walking in his footsteps (Lk 7/13). The cross is not merely a possibility in religious life, nor even a probability; it is an inevitability.

2) God, you who called the world into being, you who created women and men and set them free to live in love, in obedience and especially to those of us you called to live in the religious community of Holy Cross, grant a deeper insight into the mystery of the cross, we pray Sing: Refrain N.8: If you wish to be

1) Our experiences of the cross, Moreau reminds us, are often unannounced and cause us to question their object, form, or timing in our life. We wonder, 'why me?', 'why this?' or 'why now?'. There are no pre-packaged answers to these questions. However, Moreau teaches us that 'to the degree that we embrace the cross in our own life, to that degree we can provide the perspective of faith to others, in ministry and in community.

2) God, you who because of love for the creation, entered the world, through your son Jesus, to share our humanity, to rejoice and to despair, to set before us the paths of life and death; to be rejected, to die, but finally to conquer death and to bind the world to himself, grant us the strength of purpose to accept the crosses you sent, we pray Sing: Refrain N.8: If you wish to be

1) First of all, cross, for Moreau, is an expression of God's presence and activity in our life, in our congregation. Our senseexperience and our perception would have us believe that God is both absent and inactive during our encounters with the cross. Only in faith can we acknowledge the truth here i.e. trials are like a divine seal which stamps all the works of God.

2) God, you who invite us into the community of the church that we may, despite trials and tribulations, through faith and communion, experience God's uplifting and sustaining grace; that we may fulfill our human responsibility and reach out for our neighbour;

that we may work to bring healing and wholeness to a ruptured and uncertain world... and that we may rejoice in the constancy of nature and the joy of life itself, we pray Sing: Refrain N.8: If you wish to be

1) Secondly, for Moreau, the cross is an expression of God's mercy and love. New trials are reserved for the work of Holy Cross to enable it to emerge from them with greater strength and vigour.

2) God, whose word teaches us that the wheat and the weed grow together; that the paths of life and death, good and evil, too often converge.... choices are not clearly defined, grant us the confidence to responsibly tread the path we choose, we pray Sing: Refrain N.8: If you wish to be

3) Thirdly, for Moreau, the cross is a reflection of Jesus' example. As Jesus lived, so we are called to live. Inherent within our experiences of the cross lies the power of transformation.

2) God, whose purpose we try to sense in a spark of light here and there as humankind struggles to keep a human face. We know your purpose as we watch children at play...hope born anew in each generation....perhaps to be quickly extinguished, perhaps to continue to burn brightly. For that hope may we give thanks, we pray Sing: Refrain N.8: If you wish to be

We shall now be in touch with our sisters and brothers who one way or other bear the cross of Christ

1) My brothers tell me how people die of hunger because there is no food to eat. 2) My sisters tell me how people die of lack of hope because they do not see a way out.

1) My neighbours tell me how people die of courage because they have dared to speak up and to shout out against the oppressors. 2) I listen to the agony of God.... I who am fed, I who am clothed, I who am strong, I who know...

1) I was hungry not just for food, but for peace that comes from a pure heart. 2) I was naked not for clothes, but for the dignity of men and women for their bodies.

Concluding Prayer: Living God, we pray for all people:

Concluding Prayer:
-For those shut off from a full life by tradition and practice. -For those people who are oppressed and exploited.

-For those denied their freedom and dignity by systems and authorities. -For those forced to leave their jobs and homes because of their ideologies.

-For those seeking answers and meaning to their lives within their cultures and religions. -For those forced to sell their bodies to survive.

Concluding Prayer: -For those who live lives of quiet desperation in the hands of the powerful and prestigious.

Concluding Prayer: For these and all those who one way or other bear the cross, we pray Lord, that we may once again give joyful expression to your creative love which breaks down barriers and unites person to person, woman to man, and members to their community.

Concluding Prayer: Which gives meaning and hope to empty lives and makes us reach out to each other in generous self-giving. We ask this through Christ, Our Lord. Amen .
