Storage Tank Vapour Losses

Floating Roof Seals

Comparison between SR1 and Scissor Shoe Seal

HMT Scissor In-Service installation 13 pressure points Evenly distributed pressure hard pusher bars and plates maintain pressure at all rimspaces All stainless steel construction (no seizing) Overlapping plates allowing movement to maintain seal always Flat plates maintaining full contact with tank shell All parts easily replaced inservice with quick turnaround No welding required, all parts are quick assembly SR1 Pantograph Take tank out-of service 3 pressure points Pressure only on one level of plate Reliant on counter-weight, or in some cases coil springs Many Mild Steel Parts (corrosion leading to failure) Plates bolted together causing stiffness losing seal Convolutions acting as chimneys increasing vapour losses Most replacements require tank out-of-service Welding of parts and parts to floating roof required

Flex-A-Seal
In-service installation Wide range of materials for various service conditions Reduced vapour losses Accommodates wide range of rim-spaces Static electricity dissipation Superior fire snuffing Foam ports optional

Vapour Losses through legs

Vapour Losses through legs

200 ft tank with Gasoline (RVP13) Average 30 pontoon legs, 69 centre legs Annual losses without socks = 2200 lbs Annual losses with Socks = 900 lbs Saving 1300 lbs per year Saving in Barrels 6.25 barrels per year Cost saving @ $37.00 per barrel = $231.00
(Values will increase or decrease depending on climate and local conditions)

Leg Sock
Reduce Hydrocarbon emissions. Urethane or PTFE fabric impervious to weather, stored products and UV rays Quick delivery Easy to install Long service life Maintenance free In-Service installation

DISADVANTAGES OF RIGID PIPE WITH SWIVEL JOINT DRAIN SYSTEM

High maintenance cost. Requires inspection, repair, replacement and lubrication of Swivel Joint and packing every few years. Possible only with tank out of service. Swivel Joints are designed for internal pressure not submerged service.
