Carried out a survey to identify how many women had applied for adoption during the September 20, 2011 general elections. We further asked Political parties if they had policy documents that would compel them to facilitate the participation of more women in decision making positions within their structures.

WHAT RESULTS HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED?

PROJECTS: SUB CATEGORY At least 16 women were elected in the September 20, 2011 of the 70 we supported through the provision of bicycles for their campaigns, financial support for their campaign materials among others. This is a plus to us as most women were winning in antifemale wards. Political Parties have began moving towards implementing some of the resolutions we were submitting and making together with other stake holders. A vivid example is that of the PF regime that has taken centre stage in appointing women.

IMPACT (BASED ON THE SADC PROTOCOL TARGETS)

The Zambia National Lobby group continues to lobby government to domesticate the SADC protocol on gender and development. Following the pressure we have continued to mount and lobby government leaders to consider empowering women with positions of decision making President Michael Sata has shown commitment to this call by appointing the first female Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani. And suffice to note that my team in the province engaged the ministry of Education at provincial level to relook at their promotions which has produced good fruit. We are proud to note that all the schools in the area are gender sensitive, if the head is a woman the deputy is a man and vice-versa.

IS THIS ACTION SUSTAINABLE? CAN IT BE REPLICATED BY OTHER INDIVIDUALS, GROUPS AND ORGANISATIONS IN YOUR AREA AND BEYOND?
The project is sustainable as it is community ran and can be replicated across the country through re-branding some of the messages to suit each particular location. With sufficient resources the project would go a long way in popularizing gender and governance and further enhance mens involving in the 500/50 campaign and all other issues in the SADC protocol
